That's exactly the problem with Hollywood in the early going of 2025. The box office has been suffering something fierce.
The theater industry is dying. It's sad

Put out something that’s original and entertaining and I’ll go. Oppenheimer was worth multiple trips to the theater.

There's been several. People just don't go to the movies as much anymore. Streaming has destroyed the industry

Quality has dropped on both fronts since Covid.

The theatre industry is not dying. It's just studios are not producing movies that people want to see. The new MI movie will get people to the theaters. The new Avatar will cause some excitement.
It's just early in the year there is nothing of interest for the audiences. It is always cyclical for the movie theaters to go thru this.

We'll see. The last Mission: Impossible movie kind of disappointed at the box office.

It did disappoint bc it was Part 1 and there were some things that were not explained. The plot seemed over expanded. I believe the final film on the series will get the audience back and explain a lot that was missing. Gabriel character and connection to Ethan is a huge point that needs clarity.

A lot of movies are on streaming a month or two after the theaters. I’d rather save the money and wait for most of them

They aren't doing anything to combat Epic Universe.
That's not exactly accurate. They have a different long term strategy than Universal. Universal has been saving for this "big bang" for a long time. Disney has been consistently rolling out new, relatively major attractions for years now and they just announced some major park expansions.

No they haven't. They've been slowly finishing projects they started before or during COVID. No one is excited about it.

They need to completely fill a river for the expansions in Magic Kingdom, and they haven't started yet. Given how long it took them to finish the things they announced before COVID, this is a very bad sign.

How long do you think amusement park projects should take, and can you think of any reasons at all that would have delayed and/or slowed the progress of those projects in the past 5 years?

They could have had all of those projects completed before they opened for the COVID closure. Nothing was preventing them from doing so. In short, the reality is that there was nothing that delayed these projects other than Disney's own stupidity. They've lost sight of what made them a success.

Disney paid for Epic Universe. Comcast used the money they received from the Hulu acquisition.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Disney took almost as long as Universal building Epic Universe to build ONE attraction at Magic Kingdom that needed almost ZERO R&D because it was a replica of an already existing ride at another Disney park.
ETA: They're completely tone deaf. It's like they're intentionally trying to destroy the most profitable arm of the business by boring everyone.

They don’t even need to fill in the river, they have space elsewhere. By filling in that area, they’re completely changing the atmosphere of that part and pissing off long time customers.

GotG and Tron are both legit amazing attractions. You can't say nobody cares about those. GotG may be one of the best experiences at any theme park.

This is true.
Tron is not impressive. Far too short.

You're exactly right, and it's a major mistake. Disney World costs too much for whatever new audience they think they're targeting. They're removing all the character that gets the nostalgic crowd to pay for these exorbitantly expensive vacations.
Plus, the steamboat is unique and iconic. They're removing it to add a Cars land. Meanwhile, they have an extremely aged, and not unique, "Tomorrowland Speedway" that really needs to be replaced in an area that is obviously already setup for a vehicle-based ride experience.
It only makes sense from a cost perspective. The steamboat is costing more to maintain, so they're removing it. It's that simple. Guest experience obviously isn't part of the equation.

Are the two even actually competitors? I know they are at a surface level, but I think Disney just rides nostalgia while Universal has a bit more flash.
I’ll admit, despite them have far more misses than hits in the past decade, I still get drawn in by Disney when a ride tune like Pirates or Soarin or whatever else comes on.
Universal I’m going more for a specific land or ride. Epic Universe will have a bit more nostalgia appeal though with Mario and the classic monsters.

The How to Train Your Dragon zone is hitting all the right notes for my graduating Senior and her friends. They somehow managed to hit every living generation of my family.
