The American actually got enough votes. The “Conclave” got it right this time.

He did a food show in Italy (he speaks fluently) and it was awesome except he kept interjecting his woke politics in the show. instead of talking food, he kept changing the subject to immigration. he came across as condescending while preaching to Italians to change their politics to fit his. so he sucks for ruining a good show

Well that's bullshite. I watched the entire series and he wouldn't shut up about the food. He was overly proud of his "Italian on BOTH sides" heritage and was condescending about how he was open enough to enjoy "peasant food", but his politics were kept in check.

I kind of like Tucci in spite of the fact that he seems like he is an arrogant a-hole in real life. He did come across as condescending in his food show and seems totally in love with himself.

despite my political differences with him, I've always thought that he's been known to be a nice individual off screen.

He's supposed to be very well liked and a kind person in real life, politics aside.

I've only ever gotten that vibe from everything Tucci does. Don't think it's an act.

I didn't watch every single episode, but I watched a bunch. I don't recall him wasting a bunch of time talking about immigration. Maybe when he was specifically talking to people about their personal journeys to wherever they were.

Had a cancellation in my schedule so to kill some time in between, I just went back to watch the Bologna episode. I didn't recall any major political stuff the first time around (other than COVID mentions/masking because it was shot during COVID). And I watched with this comment of yours in mind:

quote:

He did a food show in Italy (he speaks fluently) and it was awesome except he kept interjecting his woke politics in the show. instead of talking food, he kept changing the subject to immigration. he came across as condescending while preaching to Italians to change their politics to fit his. so he sucks for ruining a good show

- He literally talked about the food the whole time. If you missed him talking about the food, were you even watching the fricking show? Truly. That's just a horrifically bad take. It's literally all about the food, how it's made, how the people have made these products for hundreds of years, the cultural implications of the food created, etc.

- He does mention that Bologna is the "poster child for liberal Italy". He speaks to a young man who was heavily involved in the Sardines movement (leftist movement against Matteo Salvini) briefly before he shows him the origins of Mortadella in Bologna. And then shows the same group associated with "The People's Kitchen" who are feeding folks in the Bologna area with volunteers and supermarket donations. And how this was modified during COVID because of the social distancing. There is very little to no mention of immigration, outside of maybe one remark describing The Sardines Movement. All together it's about a 5-7 minute section of the 43 minute episode. And he's highlighting a legitimate movement that was popular in Bologna at the time, not him injecting his own politics. Those politics were existing in Bologna at the time.

- He talks about the widespread corruption over 1 million fake Parma hams, the crackdown on the ring, and the protection of ham in Italy. Pretty crazy but makes sense. We're talking now DNA tests for ham. Wild.

- There's discussion of Fellini and some of his movies that featured fascism. But it's very brief before the discussion of where he would find dishes that he loved in Italy.

- They talk about the origins of Cappelletti (the priest's hat) and the influence of the Papacy on the pasta. And how people in the region's would have to make pasta without egg under Papal reign. And was pissed at the Papacy over it.

And now I want fricking pasta. And cantaloupe with prosciutto. And GABAGOOL. And the itch to make fresh mozzarella is back. Thanks.

For everyone else, really enjoy this show and the nuance in the content. Don't watch on an empty stomach or if brief mention of a region's politics will bother you.

"Woke" means "whatever annoys me," and I've decided relevant, important historical context fits that definition.

You mean that thinly disguised take-down of the Trump administration that they released twenty years before the Trump administration? Nice try Obama.
