Skipping ahead five years after Infinity War?I honestly think that would be kind of lame.
We wouldn’t get to see the immediate aftermath of everyone dying, the world basically being on fire, Wakanda without a king, etc. would be a total waste of the chaos they built up in Infinity War. Also, if Scott could travel back in time why would he wait five years before telling Tony? I assume they develop that technology in Ant Man and the Wasp.
Bringing forward other heroes from different time periods would have been cool if guys like Cap and Thor would have died in Infinity War. Seems kind of redundant since their characters are still around and there are tons of different character storylines they have to wrap up. Cap/Tony and their beef. Cap without Bucky again. Is he really going to wait five years to do something? Same with Okoye and Wakanda about Black Panther? Rocket without the Guardians? Natasha and Bruce and the conflict they have now with him coming back?

It was a throw away comment at the time, but there has to be a reason the Asgardians would teach the Groot language. Norse mythology focuses heavily on the Tree of Life. I feel like Groot and maybe his species tie back to Thor.
Beyond that, I agree with most that the next one will be send off for the original Avengers. They’ll find a way to bring back Gamora though that may not happen until Guardians 3. The only reason Cap may live is that no one thinks he will.

I just don’t see Tony and everyone giving up and waiting five years to Avenge the others. That would put a bad taste in my mouth after my favorite MCU movie in Infinity War.
They’re just gonna move on and just say frick it?

They may not know where Thanos is. Thanos doesn't seem to be into ruling planets, just coming in and exterminating half the population, and then leaving.

no but we'd get to see the long term fall out of it....which could be more interesting. Was Thanos right?

maybe it won't be developed by then. Something could have been left behind in the battle to help them develop that.
I didn't love the idea when brosef first said it but it could be cool and really, I can't doubt the russos at this point

I don't think Gamora would come back until Thanos dies, and realizes the error of his ways and as he's dying makes some type of sacrifice to switch places with Gamora in the Soul Stone.

Feige and Co. have been pretty smart about transforming some of the more radical comic book lore and bringing those ideas back to Earth and make them more relate able to viewers.
With Antman this summer and Captn. Marvel prior to the next Avengers, there's plenty of room and the right people (Hank Pym dealing with Quantum mechanics, etc...) to develop on some tech that will make any type of 'time travel' elements make sense and not be outlandish.

He and Scott Lang use some kind of technology that Hank Pym has developed in order to travel back in time in an attempt to defeat Thanos in the past.
Man, that sucks for all of the parents who had children in the past five years. Sorry, but we're going to erase your kids. Hopefully you'll have similar kids in our new timeline.

well they won't really know what they lost
but could be interesting to see how Thanos reacts if the universe is in worse shape post snap. Who knows if the 5 year mark is accurate though, given how well the russos have held things close to the chest that could be off but safe to assume there will be come element of time travel.

Two movies are slated before Avengers 4.Im sure that it's utterly imperative to the MCU to capture the environment, time, and present impacts to further dictate the 5 yr span from IW1 & IW2. You'll see other heroes, more than likely Adam Warlock, in both and get their accounts of what has lapsed from IW1 to whatever time period each film falls into.

Both upcoming movies pre date the events of IW

The mid and post credit scenes for these two movies will be scrutinized more closely than the Zapruder film.

Captain Marvel takes place in 1991. Already been stated by the filmmakers. Hence Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson.
