You realize there will always be "angry old people". It's not unique to the current times. Living a life gives you wisdom and experience that others see as "angry" and "old".
Now...the episode. This show is so well done. The negotiation highlighted its mastery. The audience watching and the characters involved were all thinking the same thing.....what would Logan Roy be doing/saying in this exact situation? And both the characters and the audience both realized "whatever it would have been- this aint it". Yet, somehow, the deal probably ended up being what Logan Roy would have negotiated.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's some truth to him needing some assistance in handling an issue and him using that scenario to weed out who is actually worth keeping after the sale.
At the very least, it was a nice little Easter Egg nod to him being in True Blood as a vampire. I love it when HBO writes that kind of stuff in.

From Mattson's POV: we GenXers are not like our Boomer parents and our kids (Millenials and GenZ) are not like us. so if our Angry Old People parents (the boomers) are the backbone of the ATN/FoxNews crowd and Mattson is insisting on buying ATN, then what does it say for the future of the Waystar Royco acquisition inside GoJo? He answerred in the show: Its a few nice brands, but it is a parts shop being run by a cover band. So it would seem that Mattson intends on buying W/R and dismantling it
GoJo may be paying above what W/R and ATN is worth NOW, but what is the value going forward to GoJo? Buying ATN is a serious brand legitimacy play for a streaming service, it is a strong brand in the 24HR News industry. But what is it all going to be in 10 years?
Seems to me GoJo is overpaying, and the questions is WHY? and why the sudden rush? That is the question the Roys should be asking themselves.

Maybe. He definitely seems like the type that would have some skeletons.
Could also be that ATN is their highest-value asset and he knows it. So he's willing to pay for it before the stock tanks anymore with the siblings in charge.

I haven’t been as in-love with this season as everyone else, but that episode was awesome!
I actually can’t decide who I think “won” the negotiation and who’s playing who. I think they did a good job letting on that Madson isn’t some perfect supermind who sees the chessboard 73837 steps ahead. Yes he’s multiples more capable than the CEO bros, but I think he’s got some real underlying pressure / urgency to get the deal done. That didn’t seem phony or a play.
Can’t wait to see how it unfolds.

I feel like the show runners are setting it up for Shiv to eventually come out on top, but who knows. I don't think they win as a group.
Matteson did come off as a big a-hole, so I was happy Roman was the way he was. Then Matteson decides to give Shiv some big time ammo on him, unless it was a lie. He did say he likes to frick around, so the woman he's talking about could be in on it.

Shiv was a sour puss being on the back burner all episode. That smug look on the airplane while prompting Tom and taking a deceitful pic of her brothers for Matteson proves she is way too unfit to lead.

They dropped the nugget about ATN's alignment with Jeryd Mencken in the presidential race. His character is "far-right online provocateur." Maybe that is what is driving Mattson to get the deal done before the election AND including ATN? So he can have greater access to Mencken? Maybe Shiv is reading those tea leaves?
