Has there been successful shows starring black people? Yes.

Does that mean black actors/actresses have not been limited in their careers or typecast?

Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest people in the world. Her success doesn't disqualify struggles black women have endured.

People sometimes act like admitting minorities have had to tough means they plead guilty to some crime.

Heimdall is white in the comics, as is almost all Asgardians , as they are based on Norse mythology.

People upset with Heimdall were two fold; one group annoyed they race swapped the character and the other that they blackened (is that the right term) a traditional white character from mythology.

After the film the complaints died down because he killed it in the role. It was just silly because he is such an accomplished actor that no one should have been surprised he was so great.

I think almost everyone is sort of typecasted when they first try to break into the business. How you look makes a big difference whether people want to accept that or not. black/white, not attractive/good looking, red headed step child/blonde hair blue eyes, muscular/skinny/fat, etc.
It's up to every actor or actress after they get that first or second chance to prove themselves to the business that they are more than just the token black guy, or funny fat guy, or muscular meathead guy, or hearthrob romance guy, and they can actually act and hold an audience captive.

Absolutely. There has been plenty of white actors typecast into a certain role simply because of one or two films. Keanu Reeves comes to mind.

But my point is that black actors/actresses have had it tougher. I mean how many major actresses from 90's/2000's had very dark black skin and not light skin tones.

What in the show was woke?

you didn’t answer that you tried to rope everything outside the show into the show.

The whole “this show
is woke” is all outside context. the show is vanilla in that regard.

you’ll quote maya angelou but not a character from the show.

“woke” is a political ideology right?

At what point are they preaching or even depicting some “woke” principle or ideology?

the closest i’ve seen is the joke about the rodent alien being a “they”

I asked a simple and straightforward question. And there’s a point behind it if you’ll just answer it. Don’t add anything else or any qualifications or anything. Simply reply with your definition of woke.

Is it simply

Woke; (n) political ideology?

This crappy show didn't warrant this much discussion.

The power of one....

If you have to ask this question, then you are so uninformed about "woke" that should should not ask this question...

I’d guess less than 20% of this thread is discussing anything about the show itself. Maybe 30-40% people dunking on it and taking victory laps. And the rest has spun off into other interesting discussions. Threads don’t reach this length without much interest

This thread still hasn't spiraled into the same crazy places Snow White did. That thread was great in how we would go way off target for pages, randomly get back on topic only to be detailed again for another two pages.

In this context i would define it as a catch all phrase used to describe any kind of progressive liberal social, economic or political
ideology.

Ok a fair enough if vague definition. You are aware the building blocks of everything in the progressive movement is born out of an unholy unity of the communist jews of the Frankfurt school who fled German nazis to the USA and the post modernist philosophy right?

So instead of saying woke is just anything progressive which is accurate, you could give a much more granular definition maybe something like “woke” is a catch all term for anything that implements post modern philosophy put into practical or political action coupled with the ideas of Herbert Marcuse and his student Krenshaw who created intersectionality.

Once you are sufficiently informed about what all of these things are, what they represent, and what their goals are it will be quite easy to see why this show is woke .

this is a perfect example of the Left playing fast and loose with the English language so that they can conveniently narrow or widen the scope of a specific issue to suit their argument in any given moment.

in this case in order for it to be "woke" for Sammy it has to be very specific, overt political messaging.

but it's probably a safe bet that anything in any context that is 1 degree or more to the right of center to him would be "RIGHT WING EXTREMISM"

you can never (or it's rare at least) corner these guys because they dont actually stand for or against anything concrete, they'll always slip out the metaphorical backdoor by just changing the way they use or define language.

Hate to break it to you bud, but the light skinned black girl/guy is typcially goign to be better looking than the dark as night black girl/guy, and that is typically a bigger difference in women.
IT's not groundbreaking news that a lot of major actors/actresses are good looking.
