The Good Dinosaur

I know this one gets lost in the pantheon of Pixar. It’s got a basic plot, no A list stars, Sam Elliott and Anna Paquin are great but more B list.
But I’ve watched this one several times with my son starting when he was 3 and now tonight when he’s on the verge of 4. I’m telling you, talk about a tear jerker for old dad.
When papa gets swept away in the flood he nuzzles up to me so hard, he understands Arlo lost his dad. Then he gets it at the end too, when Papas vision says “You’re me, and more” I repeat that to him strongly and he grins so big. Makes me all mushy
The cinematography is gorgeous, background looks completely real still 9 years later.
When Arlo finds his courage gets me too, riding with Sam Elliot and the T-Rex’s music blasting.
Anyways, felt compelled to post in case in other fathers haven’t watched it with their young sons. It’s a Father/Son movie if Pixar has ever made one. About being strong and courageous even if isn’t big bad dad isn’t around. I love watching it with my boy, his smiles when Arlo finds his courage makes it an A+ Pixar for me

Well messaged. Wasn't crazy about the animation choice, to be honest. The sauropod's knees really bothered me.

Have a son about the same age as yours and we’ve always enjoyed it. Not Toy Story or Incredibles level but pretty entertaining.
I remember it seemingly taking forever to get released.

gotta be honest, this one isn’t my favorite.
one of the few Pixar movies I disliked. really just weird.

The sauropod’s are strangely “cartooned” when the environment is so damn realistic I’ll admit that.
The T-Rex’s galloping like horses is pretty funny though, Sam Elliott being the voice of the T-Rex who pushes him along is great though. Gives great advice.
We just finished, son looked at me, hugged me and said “I love that movie”
Good enough for me

You could tell it went through multiple rewrites. They never could figure out the middle part of the story. The hallucination scene is just odd.

TGD is really good. It's lower or maybe even bottom tier Pixar, but those are still excellent movies.
My son also loved in that age range. He's 5 now and we haven't watched it in over a year I'd guess. I may try to put it on for him soon.
But the story is good enough to be entertaining, and it definitely tugs at the heart strings a little, especially for dads/sons. And I've always said it's one of the most gorgeous Pixar movies. The landscape is almost photorealistic with how well it's animated.
It's underrated IMO. Most people just seem to think it sucks, and it definitely does not.

One of the first movies I ever took my oldest to (he’s about to turn 12) so it’s got a special place for me. Honestly always thought it hit pretty hard despite being a fairly standard movie.

It was a favorite of my daughter's when she was a little younger. It came out the year she was born(2015)
It's a good one. Good message.

I really liked it. Pretty underrated imo. I don't have a little one but if I did I'm sure that opener with his dad would hit kind of hard. Just took a page from Bambi's book, nothing wrong with that. Need to rewatch this one actually.

It's a gorgeous but very simple kid's movie. It's not annoying for parents, and it's probably one of the better Pixar films for younger kids.
But many (including/mostly critics) panned it because it lacked complexity and was child-oriented, which strikes me as absurd.

One of my 2-1/2 year Granddaughters favorite movies on Disney+. She asked me to put the Dinosaur movie on last Thursday when we got back from Trick or Treating.
She request and watches The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and Boss Baby all the time.

I watched Boss Baby with my 3 year old who will soon be a big brother and he lost it
He started crying and asked me if the new baby will be a Boss Baby and boss him around.
I am contemplating buying a small suit for the baby, may be too far

in Pixar's golden era when they didn't really miss it's probably the lowest on my list, but maybe due to the above.
still an enjoyable movie though. well animated.
i also really enjoyed the trailer. great song.
