This thread made go watch a few random episodes this past weekend.
The episode where Uhtred is a slave on that boat.

Love the books, love the show. While novel and show Uhtred is fictional and living across a large timeline, most of the battles actually took place. I like Vikings.while it has higher production values and budget, it is mostly fantasy. The Saxon tales are fiction, but it is more straight forward, Uhtred did this or that during these historical events. Both are worthy, but I prefer The Last Kingdom.

3 on 3, who wins:
Ragnar, Floki, and Torstein (Rollo was a traitor so he doesn't get to play)
or
Uhtred, Finan, and Sihtric
Ivar would find a way to frick all of them up.

Loved both The Last Kingdom and Vikings, but made the mistake of watching both around the same time. Kept getting characters confused between shows.

not hard to do, because some of them in the early Last Kingdom are the same people from later in Vikings.
Ubba in The Last Kingdom is one and the same with Ubbe in Vikings
King Alfred is the same King Alfred.
Ivar the Boneless is mentioned (but never shown) in The Last Kingdom.

I am a big fan of the books. The show was good. It suffered mostly with scale. Budget didn’t allow for bigger battles, so the show often felt too small.
The only other issue was the casting of Uhtred. Which is a shame bc overall casting was brilliant. But Uhtred wildly missed the mark. That actor was never belligerent and intimidating enough to capture the character. Non-book readers wouldn’t understand just how ferocious the main character is. How much the other characters feared him, and how much he loved being a medieval warlord.

He kind of reminded me of the Jax Teller of vikings, more reluctant good guy than vicious killer.

It’s great. So great you don’t even care that Uhtred didn’t age a day in 70 years.
Destiny is all, and thus trumps aging.
