Everybody wants to talk about season 2. I liked season 2. Season 5 is the one I dread. All that stupid newspaper shite, and don't even get me started on S5 McNulty

Dread is almost too strong. But it isn't.

Gus (played by extraordinary television director Clark Johnson), the editor with integrity and ethics, is almost worth the other pain in the newsroom. But not quite. While I think it was an interesting concept - a number of things broke down in execution. I can't point to a single flaw, beyond the fact the cast they selected just couldn't pull off what the Barksdale and Stanfield organizations, city politics, police officers (at all levels) or the dock guys/foreign drug smugglers were all able to do.

Hell, even the corner boys delivered as well or better than the newsroom folks.

And the Season 5 McNulty? How to take a character that was that beloved and respected (however flawed) and drop him to A.J. Soprano, Walter White, Jr. levels is beyond me.

acting in Season 2 is stellar - some of the best in television history.

Yep. Gets better every rewatch.

I’ve seen seasons 1&2 five times. The others only 3. I get finished with a rewatch and start 1&2 over. So good.

Well that’s a bit harsh i don’t AJ or Flynn we’re creative enough to fake a serial killer.

I actually appreciated S5 the 2nd time thru even though it does miss the mark overall. it’s odd that a former newspaper man couldn’t quite get the newspaper angle but I get what he’s trying to do, it’s just hard to convey but the real newspaper theme is they missed all the big stories. Police cut backs and back to juking stats, schools budget problems major drug distributor murdered etc.

As for the McNaulty deal it’s strange it’s not totally out of character, the FBI profiler nailing him was classic but it doesn’t work since it’s so extreme it’s like he couldn’t really come up with a good exit strategy for Jimmy to get fired and for things to end like they did. Marlo getting off but out of the game

The GOAT...even with season 5 kinda spiraling out of control. I thought season 2 was excellent; I would go something like ths 1,3,2,4,5 in terms of my enjoyment, but this is not to diminish how good the whole thing is.

This show is like watching paint dry. I swear everybody says this is the best show all time just because every critic has it first on their list. It would be career suicide in the ratings business to put anything other than the sopranos and the wire as 1&2 but in reality the tv shows now a days blow this old shite out the water. Same crap as the older generation saying Michael Jordan is the best ever no matter what LeBron James does.

And the younger generation shitting on something that came out before your time is such an original and daring take.

Wow
I’m loving season 4, blowing through it like Boone’s farm at a high school party. But! What’s up with the lack of Mcnulty? Still great which goes to show how great of a show it is but I miss the dude... what gives? Unless it’s a spoiler....

Btw I love seeing little finger win.

It took me a while to get hooked by Season 2, but it was definitely one of my favorites by the end of it. The Barksdale drama and the tragedy of Frank Sobotka were well done. Ziggy was definitely annoying, but I got over it.

I personally believe the Wire is the greatest American work of literature from the last century.

It should be requiring “reading” for every American.

Season 4 is at the top for me. The dissection of why these kids end up where they do, thus creating everything else the show touches on as a result is truly a remarkable piece of TV.

I go 4,1,2,3,5

I agree, except I would personally put season 2 last.

I said the same thing in a thread about a year ago, but I took it one step further and called it the greatest piece of American art on any medium.

FYI, don't read too much in this thread or you will definitely be spoiled.

And S4 is awesome. Ranks as the #2 season for me.
