There at the end , singer Jack and his wife and the big green egg, she tells him it’s the embodiment of the downfall of his parents marriage and shows some scar he gets So something must happen with Toby not paying attention or being tired from traveling and being careless or something and Jack getting hurt from that . ( just my theory)
Yeah, that's what I am thinking as well.

Over the target, IMO.

I definitely wouldn’t put it passed Kate to overreact and flip out over Jack getting hurt. Just one more layer of vileness to this already wholly unlikeable character.
Gotta say, I really liked the way Randall and Beth handled the Deja issue. They were both pissed off but didn’t let their anger bleed in to their relationship.

How is the big green egg gonna hurt jack?!
Also toby should not have taken a job so far away. As a new father, i dont like going out to work for 8 hours away from my 10 month old son. I understand work and all but toby is placing work above family.

Jacks blind so he may run full speed into it and slice his head wide open.
That’s my theory

Probably something like this. And if that’s what causes Kaye and Toby to break up, then she’s more insufferable than I even thought.
Kids get hurt, it’s part of life. Get them
Patched up and move on.
When I was 8 I fell off the top rung of the monkey bars and died. My dad told me to rub some dirt on it and go play. Mom checked me out, sent me back out, and brought my dad another Miller High Life.
Pussification of America escalates with each passing year.
I hope Toby finds a woman that he really deserves. And Kate chokes on a ham sandwich in slow motion while a Mammas and the Pappas song plays in the background.

First off no way in hell in real life Kate would be married.
Next, if a guy like Toby feel for her and married her he wouldn’t last a year or would be smashing something on the side

Fogleman's music choice is pretty bad, episode to episode. This guess many be spot on.

Off the top of my head, has there been an episode to this point that didn't feature ANY of Big 3 as adults?
Posted on 1/26/22 at 12:04 pm to VoxDawg
That was interesting for sure
I had forgotten all about jacks mom. This episode didn’t really hit me as hard as I thought it would .
But like Jack said, he didn’t really know anything about her life .

Same here. I think most of us had.

It's so weird. For as much as he's an amazing father & husband, he totally whiffed on Nicky and his mom. It's very inconsistent for the character, IMO.

I think I may be becoming emotionally immune to the show. I just wasn't moved much at all by the episode. I was ready for it to move on to something else.
Jack's eulogy seemed to be more about him than his Mom which I thought was odd.

I agree wholeheartedly. We didn't see Jack's mom enough to care about her, I'm afraid.
It was very Cat's in the Cradle, Mother Edition.

This is correct. And exactly how I felt. It didn’t hit nearly as hard as other emotional moments have for the show.

Makes it a pretty wasted filler episode.

Especially when we're 20% into the final 18 episodes for Season 6

I want it to move on along at a rapid pace. It's getting to be like watching paint dry.

I totally disagree with this. Most of the time, I find his music spot on. The old music is always perfect.

I disagree with this. It's exactly his character. He's a very damaged man from the way he grew up with his a-hole dad. We've seen him cut Nicky out of his life as though he were dead. Jack's pain and fear of his family being like the one he grew up in is too great. The good son in him knows he should call and see his mom. The damaged child in him finds the pain too great to do anything besides talk to her once a week on the phone. Everything about her makes him think how bad his growing up was and why didn't she get them out. It's exactly who he is. Jack is a good guy. But he's very damaged and human.
