I mean, it doesn't look horrible. I like David Harbour as the primary comic relief. I'm worried about the tone. "Nobody is a hero, there are just shades of grey", and then the impossibly light tones at other times.
Marvel has struggled to find a balance in their homogenized, Disney-fied era. Every film has to be a spectacle. Every film has to be a buddy comedy. Every film has to have a feminist statement. Every film has to have deconstruction.
On balance, if we were not already weighed down by the post-Endgame MCU "meh at best" pattern, I could be more excited about this film than I am.
Imagine if they had passed the mantle of Cap down to Bucky and this film had been his team-building movie (and they had skipped a lot of the, frankly, shite films and shows since).
Just imagine that...

I assume this is based off of some comics? As someone unfamiliar with the source material, that trailer wasn't horrible. But it also wasn't overly great either, and didn't really pique my interest in wanting to see it at all.
That trailer was all over the place tonally as well.

More female-centric trash with dumb sitcom dad white guy. If Tim Walz was a superhero.

I don't know man. I'm kinda sick of the trope of the straight white man always being the dumbass. Every sitcom, commercial, and movie follows this same shite. I used to think it was just coincidence. But in 2024 it's hard not to think it's a combination of always attacking the only safe demographic left and subtle subversion to get everyone thinking that straight white males are all idiots.

Because the trailer didn’t just show Bucky being a total badass right

Funny how DC and Marvel ebb and flow in and out of each other. This looks more like a serious version of Suicide Squad than it does Thunderbolts.

The trailer looks fantastic. My only question is I know Bob is supposed to be Sentry. I don't know a whole lot about his character, but I do know that he is supposed to be Marvel Superman. How do they handle a character of such immense power in a movie that's supposedly very grounded with street-level characters.
It looks like Bucky is back to being a badass. That is great. But I also really hope they don't brainwash him again.

That's a double-edged sword, though. It just reminds me that Bucky clearly should have been the next Cap.

Not my point at all.
A better question is, where's the dumb, bumbling, buffoon character played by a woman?
I'll make it easy, let's not restrict it to this movie. Find me one in any movie, TV show, or commercial in the last 20 years.

The Studio must have a lot more confidence in this movie to release in in May whereas Capt. America 4 is getting a January Release.

Melissa McCarthy on IMDb

I didn't hate it. Like a lot here I'm very jaded when it comes to the MCU, but I certainly don't want it to be bad. If they let Bucky be a badass like it looks like in the trailer, I think I could get on board.

Well played.
That's one.
The ratio seems a little one sided though don't you think>?

quote:Not really. You're looking at it from the perspective where you don't want men to have the market cornered in not-overly-attractive, unintelligent roles. Meanwhile, not-overly-attractive comedic actresses struggled for a century before they had a good number of roles written for them. But it's getting there. Look at Meredith on The Office, Crystal on Rosanne, Rebel Wilson, Bridget Everett...

It's not a "new woke thing". And on the flip side you have people in here complaining when an ugly actress does get a role.
