I really liked that bird scene. They integrate his visions in very well. I also liked the one if him driving down Causeway and the lights starting to blur. Not overdone, but just enough to let you know this guy sees some shite.

Watched the first two episodes last night. I'm in.
Much darker tone than I anticipated.
And oh those titties...

I love the tone of the show, I think it captures small town LA better than the other shows that have tried. It's heavy, humid, with a sense of desperation.

I love the character development we're seeing.

I found it funny that "Eunice" was a mile away or so on the south side of I-10 on the way into New Orleans.

Agreed.
I can't stand Marty. I think he's arrogant regardless of the front he puts up regarding his career and family.
Love Rust. I know he's fricked up and MM's acting can't get anymore perfect. Seriously, I can see that guy living in the back side of a trailer park.

so far, MM as the old, chain smoking, beer drinking, derelict is more convincing than MM as the young, agnostic, haunted detective. He just really nails that character to a tee, IMO.
Sidebar- Since I seem to be one of the few who missed the big owl in the church, did anyone notice the blackbirds form the satanic symbol when they first arrived at the church? That was pretty damn good on the part of whoever came up with the idea.

Havent read this whole thread - but Im calling this now
MM is the killer.
He is the one with the spotted psych history, the one who found the sculpture in the playhouse, the painting in the church, saw the symbol in the sky, tortured by alcohol and a painful past, etc
now years later something has come up to get them to question him

I don't think so or at least hope not, that would be lazy writing.

Marty straight laced dude is more than likely the killer than Rust but anyone we've met being the killer/killers would be lazy writing

I jokingly said this at first but they're setting it up to perfectly for it to be him now. It would be a major letdown.

There's no way.
If you want to say he's a copycat down the road, I'll say maybe. The original killer, nah. Unless he's completely disassociating, he's too reflective originally.

yeah, i said earlier that when he says "i dont sleep, i dream," that he may have some sort of dissociative personality disorder and that his discoveries and shite in the investigation are him remembering what he did in his "dreams"
i truly hope im wrong though. too played out. pizzolatto definitely wants to lead people down that road. i think it's a red herring
im of the school of thought that the christian task force/governor's brother pressures the two to make an arrest and marty submits, even though rust is super close to blowing the case wide open. that's why he knows at the end of E1 that they want to know how the killer is still out there and lets out that smug "how indeed, detectives?"

No doubt, I wasn't saying it as a bad thing. It's different than anything I've watched on HBO.

I'm not saying this is exactly correct.......but it's exactly correct.

Has to be.
Although, through two episodes, it feels like they're leading us to believe its one of the two main characters. Maybe its Woody's wife? Perhaps thats the reason the two had a falling out in '02?
Whoever its revealed to be will likely impact the viewers. I just dont think its going to be MM or Woody.

I hope not
as I believe the show is more about the characters and how the investigation affected them rather than the case itself
