Unfortunately, there is some bad news for twisters. It's numbers overseas are horrific.

I mean, they aren't great... but isn't saying they are "horrific" a bit histrionic?

Same here. I dont think we have been back to the theater since Covid. Both my wife and myself remember the 1st one in theaters with THX

Move was fun. But how much better the theater experience is now was impressive. The super lounger recliner at Movie Tavern is a game changer for my old arse

Took the family to see it Saturday in IMAX. We really enjoyed it and had a good time.

Really reminiscent of the first movie. They kept the fun vibe and exciting style of the first one.

We like it a lot.

I may go see it. I looked Twister. I think it's same universe.

They used the same recipe and paid some homage to specific scenes and lines from the first one.

It will remind you a lot of the first one. The cars all lined up racing down dirt roads and stuff.

Plus the soundtrack was good too.

Dorothy was the only call back I noticed. Was the mom in the original or something?

Bill Paxton's character walked out by himself looking trying to read the sky and picked up dirt let it fall and let the wind took it.

She walked out by herself trying to read the sky and picked up a dandelion and let it fall and the wind took it.

The "Hey, Welcome back", "I"M NOT BACK!! line.

There were quite a few.

Need a spoiler thread because I really enjoyed it but also there are some plot things I’d love to dissect that were really dumb most of them are things you kind of expect in a big summer action movie like that but definitely still dumb

Why do movies seldom get actors/actresses that look anything like kid?
Anne Hathaway would have been perfect for the mom role...even if they would have needed to age her some. Course I'm sure she would have come with a higher price tag

Why would you pay an extra 20 mil to get Anne Hathaway in a nothing side part that barely affects the plot? I also don’t see a huge leap in their looks to the point where 99.99 percent of people would flinch at that.

Also it seems pretty clear that they had those roles earmarked for the original cast, but didn’t get them in it.

Still some margins to make with a 200 mil production budget, but I imagine Dodge paid a heavy chunk of that

This unfortunately will embolden the studios to continue to make these bloated budgets and then blame the audience when they don’t recoup their money next time

Variety says the budget is $155 mil. It definitely needs a lot more to turn a profit. Domestic is doing amazing, but that international number is very disappointing. Especially with Deadpool & Wolverine coming up.

we took our 9yo who is obsessed w/ tornado sirens. he was calling them out by name each time they showed one.

SPOILERS

yes, several throwbacks to the original except replace 'drive in movie' with 'rodeo' and i was fully expecting her mom's house to get hit along w/ her barn esp. after she said 'throw it all away' thought that was foreshadowing a future scene.

i found it interesting they didn't really inject politics; i was rolling my eyes a bit early on at all the 'government agency experts' on the funded tornado team but then they didn't really do much with that storyline.

SPOILERS- response

I don’t think they needed to make the whole plot about climate change by any means but I think if they framed it as the storms getting worse and worse over time or mentioned something in passing about it, I think that works better than the housing buy out plot - which makes no real sense. A guy coming through and offering people cash on their uninsured homes as some ultimate villain was a little head scratching. With the level of detail we are given about that (almost zero) there’s no reason to think this is an inherently bad thing. I’m also not sure what the overall real estate plan in that they are going to cash in on, people you’re still in tornado alley. Unless they are secretly on a bunch of oil that we don’t know about I’m not sure where these big guarenteed profit windfalls are coming from. I would think the millions they have paid on equipment and talent would wash away anything like that. They should’ve gone a different route or given the Texas real estate guy more screen time to really feel like a bad guy. Ultimately it’s just used as a device for getting the main chick to shack up with Powell

For some reason I have never had much interest in the natural disaster genre - at least concerning storms, volcanoes, earthquakes.

I did like Deep Impact and Armageddon, though.

They are generally not very good. Oh no, slowly moving molten magma! Original Poseidon Adventure and Twister were the only two i liked.

Rising up from the middle of Los Angeles. Whatever will we do?

I know... let's force it into the Los Angeles "river" and to the ocean.

But what about that building right there in the way?

Let's rig a controlled demolition to perfectly bring it down exactly where we want it. We have 12 minutes. Go!
