I watch the series as an embellished historical series. No magic, no incarnations, no divine interventions; "real" people, "real" places. Everything has a rational explanation.
I do love that the writers have made a series that can be viewed from both angles, whether you believe that the gods exist in the show or not.

At the end of the last episode Ragnard appeared to be tripping and talking to a severed head on the floor when Bjorn asked him what they are gonna do
