Don't get me wrong, all of the above are good - but not as good as the film versions.

Definitely disagree on this one. I love the movie, but it's pretty much a generic horror movie with a stellar performance by Nicholson. The book is an extraordinary psychological look into alcoholism, addiction, abuse, families, etc while ALSO having a pretty damn good horror story. One of my all time favorite books

I haven't read the book but I did try and listen to it and even the audio-version was a frickin' slog.

I've read them. When they're good, they're good, but they also are a slog at times.

LA Confidential. The book was great, and thought to be unfilmable, but Curtis Hanson really put it together and made a great movie.

I always wanted Hanson to do American Tabloid too.

I really enjoyed the movie version of The Count of Monte Cristo.

It obviously couldn’t go into as much of the plotting and details as the book, but I felt like the movie did the book justice.

Not sure if I prefer one over the other.

Maybe equal.

I’m actually reading it for the first time right now. About halfway through and loving it. The movie is also one my favorite movies.

its both a compliment to the movie, and a hasty indifference to a great book.

to me the book is about not frickin with nature and scales how much time has passed between us and the dinos really well. its like jeff goldblum lunch speech red pill for however many pages. changes to the story means little to the overall message of both film and book.

i vote the generals daughter

I’m a huge Elmore Leonard fan, but Get Shorty may be better than the book.

Agreed.

Also... Jurassic Park.

Book was great, but seeing the dinos come to life on the screen blew the book away

Loved the book, but the movie seems to escape me. Who starred in it.

The book is good but it’s overrated. There’s plenty other better sci fi out there
