The Beatles' version is better though:
Smith for the WIN!!

Kafka, I have a question concerning the Dixie record label

Just right here-- Supremes & the Shirelles are the best

I agree-- SMITH absolutely owns "Baby It's You." And Gayle McCormick is just hotter than hot can be.

The Raindrops = Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich
With Phil Spector
ETA: Trying to learn who played drums I found a Usenet post from 20 years ago that said Jeff Barry played drums on their demos and implied he drummed on the releases as well. That would explain the primitive, powerful drum sound, rare on a girl group record.
And with Google AI it's nothing but the facts:
quote:
The song you're thinking of is "He's the Kind of Boy You Can't Forget" by the group The Raindrops. The Raindrops were the husband-and-wife songwriting team of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. While Barry was a credited singer and played drums on some of their demos, Greenwich sang the lead vocals and the song's title refers to a boy they couldn't forget.

Even though I posted the press release and video on "Popsicles & Icicles" I failed to mention it was written by David Gates who became world famous as the front man and primary voice of the group Bread. The melody structure sounds nothing like Bread.

Not the 60's but mid 70's
Their only hit song was written about Bowie

they're a rock band, not a Girl Group (note the caps)

The Ronettes were great when Phil allowed Ronnie to do the actual singing…

Yes. Martha and the Vandellas. "Heat Wave" is one of my favorite songs ever. The Shirelles also. My favorite song from them is "Baby It's You". Also like "Will You Love Me Tomorrow".
