Not a household name, but Royston Langdon’s bass line on Spacehog’s “In the Meantime” puts that track over the top for me.

Umm, I specifically asked about that bass line a few months ago on this forum and was informed that it was Keith Richards on that song.

It is Keith on bass. There is video of him doing bass lines on the song. Keith plays bass and electric guitar, Wyman plays maracas and also backing vocals

I love what Jaco Pastorius did with Joni Mitchell on Hejira to create atmosphere and tempo. "Hejira"

I know it's the opposite of most of this thread, but I love the technical precision of Carol Kaye's work on "Midnight Confessions" with the Grass Roots (kudos to Hal Blaine for his work on drums this track as well).

After digging into it, yep, that sure as hell is what happened. Apologies my good sir. I now need to go shame Bill Wyman, because that's pretty much THE iconic Stones bass line. I love learning these kind of random facts. I was wrong. Again apologies bro.

He’s certainly not reinventing the wheel, but I love Jason Newsted’s bass playing on Metallica’s Black Album. It’s thick as hell and really complements the drums and guitar. “My Friend of Misery” is likely Jason’s best moment on record with the band.

No worries. The bass line in that song makes the song IMO which is why I asked about it in the past. All good.

Having been in a now 45-years-and-counting journey towards mastering the bass guitar (not there yet, but still plugging away), I can think of countless examples of outstanding performances, both live and recorded. However, when asked to pick just one, I inevitably go back to that chilly winter evening in 1979, when I tuned my stereo to the late, lamented WABB-FM out of Mobile, AL (back in their AOR days) to hear that night’s 10pm album - the latest release from Elvis Costello & The Attractions, featuring bassist Bruce Thomas.

By the time it reached the last song on side one, I knew that I wanted to play the bass for the rest of my life.

The entire record is filled with fantastic bass lines, expertly produced by fellow bassist Nick Lowe, but “Party Girl” is the piece de resistance as far as I am concerned. As close to perfection on the instrument as is possible.

At least, it will be til I get it figured out

Pinback

really just put on any Pinback song and get lost in his playing. Armistead has often been compared to Sting, and his style is very similar. He's a superior player to Sting though.

Gene Simmons has great walking bass lines on a lot of their 70's material. Hard Luck Woman, Goin' Blind, Nothing to Lose, and Strutter all stand out. I realize he's not one of the greatest of all time but was nice to see Fontell toss him some props.
