All John Lennon for me. Plastic Ono Band is a fantastic album and then you add Oh Yoko, Jealous Guy, and #9 Dream to that.

I love George, love his solo work, love his beautiful voice, but for me Paul is the correct answer. The sheer volume of great pop/rock songs after he left was just so substantial.

to answer fairly you have to ask who wrote the best songs 1970- 1980. The answer to that question is john lennon

I would say it depends on your personal taste.
My personal taste says George.

It’s Macca for me. Just so much good material.

This is the correct answer. Paul's solo stuff really just never did it for me. George had some flashes. Ringo even has some fun stuff. But John was the only one doing Beatles level stuff. Watching the Wheels and Just Like Starting Over nicely demonstrate his continued range.

Even after subtracting points for Yoko's screeching the Plastic Ono Band did some damn strong records. But the Wilburys put George over the top.

Count me as another one not wild about Paul. As a pop influence within the Beatles he was the perfect fit. On his own - meh.

#Metoo, haven't the slightest interest.

George to answer the question.

Easily Paul. I can't stand anything John ever did.

George gets negative points for plagiarism.

I love them all. Ringo’s greatest hits album is...great. They all did great work and some not so great work. In terms of sheer volume and longevity, Paul gets the nod.

Also, anyone who says they don’t like any of Lennon’s work has either never heard much of his work or just has some personal gripe against him. If you don’t like Imagine then you’re probably just hung up. It’s one of the greatest songs of all time.

Also, every Yoko Ono song sucks.

She does not sing on Plastic Ono Band or Imagine, the two great albums from him. In fact, she is rarely heard on any album. I've seen people talk about the volume of McCartney but quantity does not trump quality, especially when you take note Lennon had his career cut short by a lunatic.

here are the john-penned songs on "double fantasy" and "milk and honey"; these songs taken as a whole (written in 1979/1980) are better than anything george or paul wrote from 1970 to 1980

"(Just Like) Starting Over"
"Cleanup Time"
"I'm Losing You"
"Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)"
"Watching the Wheels"
"Woman"
"Dear Yoko"
"I'm Stepping Out"
"I Don't Wanna Face It"
"Nobody Told Me"
"Borrowed Time"
"(Forgive Me) My Little Flower Princess"
"Grow Old with Me"

yes theres some yoko-centric fluff in there but that was john's thing. those are well crafted intelligent songs with great hooks and like someone said earlier, the closest to "the beatles" as anyone's solo work ever got

I still think it is (post-Beatles), Paul, George, then John.

And Watching the Wheels is one of my favorite post-Beatles songs. I generally didn't get John or his writing, even in Beatles songs that I like. I think he had a lot to say. He just wasn't talking to me.

I agree

He wrote a lot of crap as a solo artist, but when he wanted to and he really put his mind to it, he made some masterpieces.

Btw, "I Don't Want to Face It" is a dynamite track.

It’s Paul. George had a lot of songs in the vault while with the Beatles that were used in All Things. Living in the Material world was very good but not as good as Paul’s best stuff. Paul was obviously spewing out music for the Beatles and then still had enough amazing writing prowess left for his solos and Wings
