EC is a master in finding the previously unheard subtext of a song
Agree especially on his cover of A Good Year for the Roses but Roy Orbison beat him at his own game with The Comedians:
Roy Orbison covers Elvis Costello

prefer the Judas Priest cover of it though.
Fleetwood Mac - Original: The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)
Judas Priest did a great cover of Joan Baez's Diamonds and Rust.

The National- Never Tear Us Apart
No where near as good as the original but “they made it their own”
The Original
One of those chill inducing kind of songs

Nothing Compares 2 U- Sinead O'Connor
I’d even go 1 step further and say Chris Cornell’s cover is better than Sinead’s. Didn’t know she wasn’t the original

Dude , been listening to Allmans for 50 yrs and never knew this was based on Donovan’s song. What a revelation.

I live in Macon and have seen the Brothers a few time as well as had the privilege to see Gregg and his band at Grand Opera House in 2014 "Return to Macon" when he was "Hitting the Note".
When people come to see me they always want to go to the Big House. I never get tired of going.

Ronstadt is all technical precision and no soul.
An exception is All That You Dream that she did for the Lowell George tribute concert and is the best version I've heard of that one. She hit a home run with Willin too. Go to 38:10 for All That You Dream and 40:00 for Willin.
Lowell George Tribute Concert
Nichollete Larson (what a loss), Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris in this concert too. The whole concert is worth watching. Lowell George attracted amazing talent. He learned from Zappa, who fired him. Heh.
