How can you not have Winton Marsalis on this list? By people who really know jazz (fellow musicians and critics). He considered the preeminent trumpet player of the last 50 yrs.

He may not be remembered as the best guitarist ever, but Terry Kath’s riffs in 25 or 6 to 4 are among the best I’ve seen.

I don't keep up with all categories, but I know some of the best in each. I'm open to new names if anyone has them, but what I know for sure is that in the category I like the most, blues, SRV should be in anyone's top 3. He's 1 on my list, technically and artistically.

The best guitarists of all time are mainly found in the credits on the back of albums. Most don’t have their names in the bands or on the front of the record.
A few had semi successful solo careers like Larry Carlton, Jay Graydon, etc…..
Obviously Chet Atkins had an amazing solo career.
