Yoakum is a very good artist and I love his music, but Suspicious Minds was not anywhere as good as Elvis' it's not even as good as the Fine Young Cannibals rendition.

In my opinion Roland Gift owns that song....that's how good a job he does.

Another nomination. It helps to have the Motown orchestra along for the ride. Joan Osborne :

Maybe not best ever but Molly Hatchet's version of the Allman Brothers Dreams was always impressive to me considering the stark difference between the two.

Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt
his isn't even close to being as good as the original. Plus he censored it by changing lyrics to make it radio friendly..GTFO

quote:

In 2002, Johnny Cash covered "Hurt" to commercial and critical acclaim. The related music video is considered one of the greatest of all time by publications such as NME. Reznor praised Cash's interpretation of the song for its "sincerity and meaning," going so far as to say "that song isn't mine anymore."[3]

So you telling me you are not Trent Reznor!

That’s because they were written by Lennon/McCartney

Stevie’s we can work it out is a bop. I hear that one on the Beatles channel every once in a while.

The original We can work it out is the perfect song. Structure, lyrics, length, and replay-ability

It isn't even his best cover song.

Streets of Bakersfield is better (really...all of his covers of Buck Owens songs are pretty awesome).

It isn't even his best Elvis Cover Song...his version of Little Sister is much better than his cover of Suspicious Minds.

Never really did a great live version of Desperados Under the Eaves, at least as far as I can find. But this is a damn good cover (can skip to 2:00 if you don't want Letterman talking):
