He was one of those guys you could've sworn past away years ago.

He was already 35 by the time he broke through as a performer in the early '70s; 37 when he played Billy The Kid

Kris Kristofferson consoling Sinéad O'Connor while a crowd boos her at Madison Square Garden during Bob Dylan’s 30th anniversary concert.

So Willie is the last Highwayman standing?

With apologies to David Allen Coe, “Sunday Morning Coming Down” is the ultimate country song…

He worked as a pilot for PHI in Lafayette and Galveston.

---
While trying to break into the business, Kristofferson flew commercial helicopters and worked as a janitor at Columbia and on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, where he penned “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Help Me Make It Through the Night.”

One of my favorite songs. 88 is a great life. RIP Kris…

“…Well, the old man was a stranger, but I'd heard his song before
Back when failure had me locked out on the wrong side of the door
When no one stood behind me but my shadow on the floor
And lonesome was more than a state of mind
You see, the devil haunts a hungry man
If you don't wanna join him, you gotta beat him
I ain't sayin' I beat the devil, but I drank his beer for nothing
Then I stole his song…”

A native of South Texas, Kristofferson starred in football and rugby and won a Golden Gloves boxing tournament while attending Pomona College in California; earned a Rhodes Scholarship to study literature abroad; and piloted helicopters in the U.S. Army.

A true renaissance man.

This one hurts.

RIP, KK. There's no way to hold my head that doesn't hurt.
