I wonder if this Dopsey is related to Rockin' Dospie who used to play all over Lafayette in the 70's. It was my first introduction to zydeco and it was fantastic to dance to at the festivals.

Dwayne is the youngest son of Dopsie. He was actually a student of mine my first year as a teacher.

That dude is playing an expandable typewriter. He probably has been playing one his whole life. I remember just thinking how he just re-envisioned the instrument. A friend called it "prison zydeco".

About 6, 7 years ago I was listening to WWOZ on a Friday afternoon here in Germany and heard this song that totally blew me away. They didn't announce who it was, so I called the station and the girl was nice enough to go to the studio and ask the DJ about the song. It was Dwayne Dopsie, and since then I was hooked. Unbelievable what the dude can do on the accordion. We got to see them in Beaufort, S.C. in, I think, 2017. Free concert at a city festival, and they rocked out. Great band, and after the show they spent a lot of time talking to fans and signing autographs. Great dude, great, tight band. The washboard player kicked arse also.
