I made a post about a month ago about the bass work on smooth criminal.
I came across this tonight. I now realize why there aren't Allman Brothers cover bands all over the place. Guitars and piano players are a dime a dozen, but the bass lines in their music is hard to pull off.
This song is very guitar and piano heavy, you have to actually try to block that out and listen to hear the bass lines.
So wonderful.

Sounds like a pretty standard blues progression, tbh.

The first 4 bars, right out of the gate, the bass line is amazing. Listen. Yes, it's a standard blues progression, listen to the bass line underneath the guitar etc. Learn to read. Learn to listen.

1-4-5 pentatonic blues scale baw
Granted he has some finesse, but there's nothing exceptional about what he's playing.

If you don't care too much about sound quality, find some of the ABB live releases like SUNY Stonybrook, Boston Commons, etc., I think there is a Warehouse NO concert floating around that has the first record of Blue Sky on there, as well as Midnight Rider.
Digressing, Berry Oakley was a fricking madman. Hearing him thump away on Dreams, You Don't Love Me, Mountain Jam....shite, everything. I try not to think too much about what we lost with the deaths of him and Duane.

Yeah but sounds like it’s played through a guitar amp. Probably the recording only grabbing the high end slap. Its good shite either way and I’m sure it had thump live.
ETA: there are 2 bassists

Don't keep me wondering off of Filmore east is a great example of Berry grooving while Duane goes wild
