Looking to pick up a Spanish / Classical guitar to have around the house for picking on. Any recs?

Figured a classical guitar would be fun to play for the kiddos while they are young.

Thanks.

I played a $300 Yamaha in a music store recently and it was not bad. That’s all I got.

I have a couple of yamaha nylon strings. A C40 was my first at about $190 and it's a good cheap guitar. It made me fall in love with nylon strings. I recently bought a Transacoustic F series that has electronics so I can plug in. But it also has a way of projecting sound from the transducer without plugging in which is cool.....has reverb and chorus on board too. Now the fret board on classical guitars is wide so maybe not the best for kids with small hands. But many manufacturers make a thinner version now for people that play regular guitars so look at those. I almost bought a Taylor with that thinner fret board but decided I like them wide.......

Best bets are Yamaha for more traditional at an incredible value price point; or Cordoba for more contemporary (electric guts, cutaway, etc.) at an incredible value price point.

Thanks for the recs. To clarify, I meant a guitar for me to play while the kiddos listened. Think I will pick up the Yamaha C40II.

So with nylon string guitars you have to tie the strings on the bridge end which is a PIA. Get some La Bella Folk Singer strings, supposedly what Willie uses on Trigger, since they have a knob end like standard steal strings so no tying knots

I agree. I have been a classical guitarist for almost 40 years. On the lower end of the spectrum, Yamaha and Cordoba will give you the best guitar for the money. Depending on the budget, a $700 Cordoba will likely get someone through the rest of their lives unless they got really serious about Classical guitar.

There are a few companies that now make ball end nylon strings (Ernie Ball, D'Addario). But learning to tie them at the bridge isn't difficult. You still have to tie them on the tuning posts.

Don't sleep on La Patrie. Good sound from a $400 guitar.

I learned to play on a classical Alverez guitar. Good starter for a lot of reasons but the neck is wide that when/if you move to an steel string, seems easier to play to me.

I've played 1 before and I thought it was very good.
I think they are under the Godin umbrella and made in Canada.

I’m probably just a nerd but I low key enjoy the ritual of tying off at the bridge, even take the extra time to weave the loose ends into the adjacent string’s knot. I can’t play for shite but my string jobs are immaculate.
