Funny you mentioned that. I got back into electric guitars a little over a year ago... slowly researching and trying to wrap my head around what I want to buy.

Being a Jerry fan, I've read about his 80s-90s setup and I've come full circle... from a shitty Cort Guitar to wanting a Irwin Guitar.

Got My eye on one of these Yamaha transacoustic parlor guitars that's used.

Those are some gorgeous Rhoads V 's

Thanks. I bought the crimson swirl RR around 2005 I think, and that was my favorite up until I bought the soloist in 2018. I bought the white RR at the same time as the soloist but just don’t care for it compared to my older RR. Looks pretty hanging on my wall though. Haven’t really played the Les Paul much since the late 1980s.

Thanks to this thread I just ordered a new guitar.

I went back and forth on quite a few, but I settled on the Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid C-1

I never really use the Floyd Rose on my LTD, so I opted for a fixed bridge. I do eventually want to get another guitar with the Floyd Rose. And I do love my LTD MH-100. So maybe down the road I'll get this MH-1000.

First my dad gave me, a 1973 Yamaha classical acoustic with "catgut" strings and a (wide neck for my 10 year old hands) but I definitely learned how to finger chords on that thing coupled with a Mel Bay instruction book!!

Hard to choose a favorite, hmmmm, favorite acoustic now would be my 2005 Taylor 214.
And my gibby Les Paul (2007 faded studio) would be my favorite electric.

Did your guitar come in?

Bumping an old thread because I enjoyed the responses.

First guitar? An Aria acoustic.

Favorite? A 1982 Korina Gibson Flying V... I should have never sold. Gibson Custom Shop has them for $9,999. !

Would love a Fender CS as well. One day...

I ordered one of the classic vibe 60s mustangs, it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow.
I ordered it straight from Fender, because since it was my first order from them, I got 10% off.
Hope that means it will have a great set up, and ready to play right out of the box.

It sure did. About 3 weeks ago. I strung it up with some D’Addario 11-56 strings and have it tuned to drop C.

Also, I almost forgot that I still had my brother’s old Fender Squier. Found it up in the attic and it was in surprisingly good condition. I had to adjust the truss rod cause the neck was bowed back. I strung it up with some Elixir 9-46 Custom Light strings, adjusted the string action, and have it in standard tuning.

I also found my old GX-100 up in the attic and it was in better shape than I remembered. It was missing some bridge components so I ordered what I needed on amazon and got it all fixed up. The fret board isn’t in the best shape but it’ll do. I put some Ernie Ball 12-62 Mammoth Slinky strings on it and have it tuned to drop A#. Plays and sounds pretty good.

So I ended up having more guitars to play with than I thought.

Maybe I’ll buy a new acoustic next.

I learned to play when I was 12 or 13 on my Dad's '73 Alvarez acoustic. When my brother started the Gourds he used that same guitar for the first 2 or 3 years until he could afford a good guitar. I didn't play much in HS or college but bought a cheap fender acoustic to relearn on when I was in my late 20s.

My favorite would either be my Guild F47rce made in Westerly (in the middle) or a Martin DCME I bought from a buddy a few years ago.(on the left). I switch back and forth between those 2.

Seen your brother Kevin many times (Gourds and Shinyribs) and he gave a shoutout to KLSU during a performance of 'Take Me to Lake Charles' in your honor.

That set they did on ACL was a lot of fun.

That Guild is my favorite. My buddy had a beautiful Guild he sold through a record store in Austin. Hated to see it go.

My first was a Rico it was a tele style electric that was so cheap three search engines couldn't find a pic.

My favorite a Yairi DYMR70SB

link link

It's a full 25/12 scale 12 fret, so the bridge moves down in the lower bout giving it a bit more body (lower bout) than your standard dreadnought. Coupled with moving the bridge down the bracing is forward shifted giving the top a larger expanse to vibrate from. The slot peg headstock and direct coupled bridge changes the break angle and supposedly lessens string tension; however I'm not sure or good enough to notice. With a nut width of 1 23/32 it's a nice medium sized neck that's not too wide nor too narrow, while maintaining a bit more thickness than the usual thin Yairi neck. It's a cannon without sacrificing clarity or separation.

I really like that design. Bringing the first frets closer to my body really helps with my shoulder problem.

I'll copy wareaglepete and concentrate on bass - my first was a Fender MusicMaster that looked exactly like this one, purchased used for $125 in 1977:

Wasn't easy to play, didn't sound very good no matter what I did with it, but it was enough to set me on my life journey.

Favorite bass was and is my 1977 Rickenbacker 4001, bought used in 1981 for $350 - actual bass pictured below, circa December 1982:

It's gone through quite a few modifications since then (as has the guy holding it), but it plays and sounds better than ever

2nd favorite is a 2006 Fender Jazz Geddy Lee just like this one, modded with EMG active pups and loaded with flatwounds - it's my go-to for gigs in that is lighter than the Ric and has an incredible and extremely versatile tone:

Awesome! I think I interviewed the Picket Line Coyotes on my show back then when they were in town to play at The Chimes.
