What if the trade was not for #3, but for Dame?

Blazers get BI, #14, and future considerations.

Pels get Dame

Dame and CJ back together with Zion - that third superstar they never had when they were in Portland.

Obviously, there may have to be other players thrown in to make the numbers work, but that would be the guts of the deal.

The Pelicans never do this.

Dame and CJ isn’t a winning formula. Trust me.

Not blowing up this team for anything short of a generational talent. We're riding it out and hoping for the best.

I dont think Pels do this but saying its not a winning formula is incorrect. Yes, they didn’t win titles but they won a lot and were in west conf finals.

Dame and CJ have been to the conference finals with Mo Harkless, Al-Farouq Aminu, and Enes Kanter as the other starters.

They have never played with another superstar, or a roster as deep as what the Pels have.

Trading for Damian Lillard is not blowing up a team. You do that to take a shot at winning a title.

Blowing up a team would be trading CJ and Zion for draft picks. Dame is a generational superstar. He probably has 2-3 great years left in the tank.

For sure. And Zion (when he plays) with Herb and co. Would be a lot more formidable than the very best of those Blazers teams. It’s a miracle we even made the WCF with Kanter starting at C

But that was 4 years ago now. CJ has already lost a step or two. Dame is arguably better now than he was then as he’s matured but he’s going to be 33 in a few weeks. Even if he’s elite for a few more seasons, he’s going to be making super max money along with Zion making max money. If the Pels can’t get over the hump, how long till Ms Benson says “let’s restart”?

If they traded for BI, they wouldn't trade Dame. You realize they are trying to trade the pick to get him help right?

Why trade Ingram for a fail experiment?

They have two approaches - keep the pick and rebuild or trade the pick and try to win with Dame, now.

The Pels have the same dilema. Can they win now with Dame and Zion, or put everything on hold for a couple of years and hope Henderson was worth it?

No they don't. The Pelicans can sit there and keep the core intact. There's no either or here. It's all in your head.

Any trade for a player older than 34 is a fail.

I'm referring to the options to trade with the Blazers. The original trade proposal being bandied about is for the Pels to give up veteran talent to the Blazers in exchange for the #3 pick.

I proposed a different route for trading with the Blazers.

Of ourselves there are a lot of other options, like standing pat or trading with any of the thirty other teams...

I’m all for Zion’s potential, but I’m having a hard time trusting his work ethic, loyalty, and ability to get and stay healthy. What’s the point of potential if it’s not met.

At this point I’d ship Zion and keep BI. At least I know BI is trying to be his best. Zion’s stock based upon potential seems to be a diminishing value
