Kira Lewis on the bench

Anyone else notice Kira still sitting every time something big happened and the rest of the bench got up?

What do you expect? Willie nailed his arse there.

Kira thinks he's Trae Young

I know I’ve been a bit of a jackass with the Zion stuff lately bc I really want to see the guy play and our team reach our full potential and it’s tiresome that his injuries always seem to result in additional drama that you don’t get with 95% of players and injuries around the league.
But at times we have to remember that players are humans
No telling why Kira is not looking too excited tonight. It could have to do with playing time. He could be feeling under the weather. He also might be having personal issues.
Impossible to know unless you know him.
I will say, there was a couple times when I was watching the game down the stretch and I thought, man it would be nice if we could trust Kira in an inbound situation. Either A) passing it in or B) designing an action to get him open.
Bc we had a hard time getting the ball inbounds and getting open on several of those plays. Perhaps he was thinking the same thing.
Bc he could theoretically help in those situations in either role due to his passing ability and his elite speed.

I think it’s dumb not to evaluate a guy you drafted 13th that’s barely played.

We’re fighting for our playoff life right now. Evaluate??

They evaluate him every day at practice and they’ve decided he is our 4th best option at point guard

He should be playing. I could argue he probably give us better minutes than Naji.
Posted on 4/6/23 at 12:35 am to Pels_Yaz
Naji will be huge come play-in/playoff time.
Posted on 4/6/23 at 12:38 am to jptiger2009
Will he? I dont think Naji should be in rotation playoff time. You already have Josh, Herb and Dyson. You honestly dont need Naji in the rotation at all.

Oh, please do. This should be golden.

Naji is not a rotation level NBA player on any decent team. Not saying Kira is any better, but if Naji has to be “huge” for us, then we’re in trouble

I think it’s dumb that you would still need to evaluate a guy 3 years into the league.
We have our backup pg out, and no real pg starting, yet he can’t find minutes.
It’s not rocket science. He’s not good enough.

The kid was drafted very young out of Bama, similar to Jaxson. Problem is Willie and this team just don’t have time or patience to deal with these young guys developing because of their win now mentality. Even Dyson, I think Griff forced Willie to put him in the rotation. Thats on our GM drafting young guys with a coaching staff not looking to develop them.

let me fix that for you.
the kid was drafted very young out of Bama, just like Tyrese Maxey out of Kentucky. (Kira is 4 months younger than Maxey).
You can make the argument Kira should have been more ready that Maxey, considering Kira was in college for two years compared to 1 for Maxey.
I made threads their rookie year about how i found it very odd that Kira played so little early on, and argued that when you draft a guy that early, you throw them out there to see what they can do, and if for some reason they aren't getting any run, it's a bit concerning b/c it's likely b/c they simply aren't good enough.
Guys will show promise immediately in their rookie year. doesn't mean they will be great, but you know you have a good player or not pretty quickly. Maxey is a great example of that. so is Trey. so is Herb. Kira is a great example of knowing you probably drafted a guy that isn't going to contribute anytime soon. Peyton Pritchard got more run on a playoff team in his rookie year than Kira did. he played in 66 of their 72 games, and played 20mpg, and played in the playoffs.

Well that’s where we are…
Kid was the youngest player in the 2020 draft and is still only 21, and has played 1480 minutes in his entire career….waaaaay less than any other 2020 lottery pick and less than all but 2 first rounders.
Per 36 for those 1480 minutes is 15/3/5 with a couple of stocks and an almost 3to1 assist to TO.
His FG% was the biggest issue early and those numbers have gone up every season and he’s at 45/44/86% for this season.
In the 23 games Kira has played 20+mins for the Pels (*24 min avg in those games) over his entire career he has produced a line of 10.5/3.3/3 while shooting 48% from the field, 39% from 3pt, and 86% on FTs, with over a 3x assist to TO rate (3.3 to 1), along with 1.3 STOCKS. The Pels have 11 wins vs 12 losses in those games.
*Per 36 of 15.75/5/4.5 in those 23 games
Most of those games were in his rookie year...he has only played 20+ mins in 5 games since that time.

To be fair Kira had turned the corner before he got hurt and was playing at least like a rotation player. After the injury though this team became a win now team instead of developing. Maxey is just miles ahead of Kira which honestly you saw at Kentucky. I’m not saying you’re not right but when a lottery pick fails- the blame should also be on the coaching staff and gm, not just the player.

Shamit put out a tweet the other day that's interesting. I'll try to paraphrase:
He essentially said it's almost as if he's being punished for getting hurt last year. That's not the intent, but that's kind of how it feels at times. If you think of all the players to come through here that got a real opportunity to play, it's hard to figure out why Kira hasn't gotten his. Gary Clark and Tony Snell had opportunities. NAW and Jaxson were allowed to play through their mistakes. Even Naji received a ton of freedom and was allowed to play through a ton of mistakes, while Kira really doesn't get a fair opportunity. It would be one thing if players ahead of him were playing amazing ball, but they aren't.

That’s exactly my point. Once Jose went down, you would think it would be Kira’s turn. Instead we’re giving heavy minutes to Josh and Naji who recently have played like crap. Plus Josh and Naji are not lottery picks. They’re just role players who aren’t defending or playing good offense.

no shite, which is why we should have drafted him instead. That's who i wanted.
I've asked it many times 2 years ago, what are your ceiling expectations for Kira? I see Darren Collison at absolute best, and that assumes Kira can become a 40% career 3 point shooter and be a guy that can start and hold the fort down when the starter goes down.

100%. Sometimes they just aren't good enough. Sometimes they just aren't put into a situation to succeed and contribute. Sometimes it was dumb to draft them at the position you drafted them, when there were other guys with a more nba ready skill set still on the board, like Maxey and Saddiq Bey, or someone with a much higher ceiling like Cole Anthony
