I always said, if he coukd be Rondo, we'd be good. Rondo sucks at jumpshots too, but you gotta take some to keep the D honest especially if they give you looks.

The thing is, especially in his Celtic days, Rondo was a great finisher on his drives. So people had to keep an eye out for him. But Lonzo can't even do that consistently. That's a bare minimum scoring threat you have to be. You can play D and facilitate, but if you're going to be the PG then in today's NBA you have to to be some kind of a threat to score when the ball is in your hands, and he is not that in any way.

Ball erased any momentum and some that he had built up. Absolutely terrible

He may have had the worst bubble of anyone, given expectations.

Brutal stretch for him.

It's not the players, it's the coach. Gentry is an offensive genius but is horrible at x's and o's

Lonzo was responsible for taking an ill advised three that killed all momentum in the Utah, Sacramento and SAS loss.

Its a good mindset and I'm glad that he's driven. But at the same time...it's his 3rd year in the league. Next year will be his 4th. This aint a new development mind you, its been a criticism of his since he started and it has not gotten any better. So you can keep saying "next year I'll be better" all you want, it dont mean anything until you deliver. He aint gotta be Steph or some shite like that, but it's like...just be Rondo. Really to justify being #2 overall he should be better but for the purposes of how to make this team run, he just needs to be that. He's shown flashes but he can't be that consistently.

Lonzo was always a bad fit if he can’t get his 3 pointer going.

Honestly anyone on the team who can’t hit a three and isn’t Zion Williamson isn’t a great fit.

What he did months ago is irrelevant. He’s a head case and clearly isn’t mentally ready for NBA basketball. He’s horrid.

Dude is fire from the 3! He is a flamethrower. 5 for 26 will get you noticed in the NBA

Lonzo is developing. Another off-season of working on his new shooting form will do him wonders, just like last summer.
He was shooting well before Covid and had good confidence.

In fact, he had a lil too much but I was starting to feel when he shot it, it would go in.
Had a tough stretch in the bubble but it seemed his confidence wasnt there. He was more assertive in his shot before.

People need to chill with knee jerk reaction to his performance in the bubble. Unique circumstances may have played a part in altering his comfort zone.

What is true is that his shot is better than say a Jason Kidd at the same stage of their respective careers. Give him another year before you go writing him off. Thats what the off-season is for. Its not like he's Ben Simmons and refuses to refine his shot. He made significant strides this year and thats indisputable.

Those hating on him now will be his biggest cheerleaders when he's shooting 40% for the year and serving 9+ assists, per game.

Confidence is ething in sports. That's the next leap Lonzo has to develop to reach his potential. He will be fine. Watching the growing pains is what makes the desired result that much more special. Relax.

That falls on uncle al and his philosophy. Thats why we need a new coach. This team has enough talent to win

I agree, he did make significant strides in his 3 point shooting, but don't compare him to a guy who's 10th all time in 3 pointers made, and shot 37% from 3 in his 3rd year.
It appears he has to give a shite load of attention to his offseason workouts to basketball in order to be a good shooter, and i don't trust him to continue to work on his game, as evidence by his time off recently. He's got other stupid shite that's important to him in his life, and there's nothing wrong with that, he can do what he wants.

I said it before the season started that i thought the biggest thing he needed to work on was driving and finishing, more so than his 3 point shot. How a 6'6" guy with a 6'9" wingspan is so terrible at finishing in the paint is astonishing.

His 3 point shooting is not why i want to keep him or trade him. His complete inability to be effective in the halfcourt, which i think is extremely important in the playoffs, as well as his lazy and ill decisive defense is why i don't want him.

Granted he had a terrible stretch of games in the bubble - but he was improving. Put me in the keep him camp. For now.

538 - Lonzo Makes His Teammates Better - And Zion Makes Lonzo Better

quote:

Prior to the hiatus, 67.1 percent of Pelican baskets were assisted with Ball on the floor, compared to only 58 percent when he was on the bench. New Orleans also threw an extra 14 passes per 100 possessions with Lonzo in the game over when he was out.

quote:

New Orleans was 3.7 points better per 100 possessions with him in the game than on the sideline prior to the hiatus, the fourth-best mark among the team’s rotation players. The Pellies didn’t just pass more often and more efficiently with Ball in the game, they rebounded and defended better as well — with Ball himself contributing greatly to those advantages.

He’s a fantastic rebounder, among the very best in the league for a guard. Among the 142 guards who were on the floor for at least 1,000 missed shots prior to the hiatus, Ball’s total rebound rate was 14th-best, and he was 10th-best at converting his rebound chances into actual rebounds more often than expected, given his and his man’s positioning at the time of the shot and the location of the rebound itself.

That was written before the bubble stretch obviously, and it also goes into details on his flaws - but I'm not ready to abandon ship just yet.

I think we have to sort of look at the Bucks as a model. They added a bunch of guys that could bomb threes around Giannis.

We need the same. Anyone that can't make 3s consistently or has no gravity shouldn't be a fit.
