Of all the rumored candidates, I like him the best. He did good work post D'Antoni in Phoenix.

I'll reiterate my points in the other thread on Gentry.

I am extremely leery. Is he a great offensive assistant? Yes, No question.

But he has been a HC for TWELVE SEASONS and made the playoffs twice. Twice. In 12 years.

I feel like maybe he's just a great assistant and not a great HC. There is such a thing. And its not like he had one shot for 2 years or something. 12 years.

That's fair. They have to find a championship caliber coach with this hire.

For me, it is more a slight on the other names than a belief in Gentry.

screaming A just basically said we should hire a black coach because 80% of the league is black. seems like a logical reason to hire a guy.

He's right. We should always base leadership positions on the racial makeup of the organization.

Mixed feelings about the firing, but what a class guy. Monty will definitely land on his feet & wherever he goes that will prob be my 2nd favorite team!

News in Lafayette claimed Davis wasn't consulted before the firing

That's twisting words.

Demps said he informed AD after the decision was made. He did not comment on whether they consulted players or not.

So not sure if posted here yet, but Tyreke posted a picture of himself and #itwastimeforit . Was he referring to Monty? Who really knows, but interesting.

Not surprising if that's what it means. His brother wasn't shy about his dislike for Monty.

Now Tyreke will get to play hero ball and no defense for yet another coach.

Do I now cheer for the Cabs to eliminate the Bulls so Thibs can get fired and come to the Pelicans?

Or will he be fired regardless of the outcome?

Probably set to be fired. But another playoff loss to Bron and company will seal the deal for sure

He will be a career assistant. See how many teams come to scoop him up if he was really that valuable of a head coach.

I mean it ain't like I hated the guy, but his coaching drove you crazy. I am just glad he didn't buy himself another year off the 8th seed. The Pels definitely should have finished with much more wins regardless of the injuries.

Just got home and was faced with this.

My first reaction was:

After a nano second of deep thought, I realized that I needed a some time for reflection:

I'm really getting on board the idea of an offensive guy right now.

Yes, this is a great decision. I like Monty and he will bounce back. He is a classy individual but the GS 20 point crumble in the 4th just reminded the FO of how up and down this teams performances actually were this year.

Not saying Monty deserved to keep his job based on his body of work over the lase 5 years, but this firing smells very personal. He just got the team back to the playoffs, He had 1 year left on his contract. Bringing in a new coach who'll have pretty much no cap space to tweak his roster, No draft picks in the upcoming draft.

Why did it take 3 weeks to decide, if you weren't prepared top announce his replacement the next day.

Again this isn't a defend Monty post as much as it is a question Dell thread. Some of the reports coming out now make it seem that Dell was just itching to dump Monty. Descriptors like "Dell finally get's his way" and "Finally Dell wrestles away full control of the team." Then Dell doesn't even break the story. Mickey Loomis makes the first press conference and by Mick's account, it was he who actually told Monty he was being let go. All this just days after Mr. Benson publicly praises the team ans specifically Monty for good jobs dispute untold hurdles throughout the season.

Seems like this has the makings of a debacle.
