Morant. I like Tatum a lot, but I just think Morant can be special. And I keep seeing people bring up Knox, but Mitchell Robinson is easily the top player you want from the Knicks. And if we trade with Knicks, you're most likely getting 4 players because Knicks need to free up cap space to try and get AD, Kyrie, and Durant.

I've said this before, but dream trade is Morant/Robinson/Knox/DSJ (sent to another team for somebody else since wouldn't need him with Morant here) Trier or Dotson. And the 2 Dallas picks.

At 19 years old and needing a little time to develop, yet played almost 30 mins a game, you cant expect him to come in the league and be a top 50 player.. Derozen, Fox, hell even Kawhi all had a below average rookie season..

3 things Griffin is looking for:

Player with all-star potential: Ja/Zion
Role player: Ntilikina
Draft picks: NY owns all their future picks, plus that Dallas pick

Knox could for all intents and purposes be viewed as an extra draft pick, and if he hits his potential would be a great pickup for us..

NY has more than just picks to offer

that sounds identical to a Celtics deal

Right. The Celtics have the package that it sounds like Griffin prefers.

Picks
Tatum
Smart (elite role player)

I prefer Tatum over Morant because I believe elite wing play is more important than elite guard play (or big play for that matter).

BOS 2019 picks right now are 14, 20 & 22 (ie: crap)
14 could move up but unlikely

I don’t think the pels want anything to do with drafting at those spots just to do it.
I think the deal with BOS will be Tatum, Brown, Hayward and the 14th pick for Davis and Moore. Or take Hayward and Moore out and give up smart instead. Personally I’d rather have Hayward but whatever

Pels take a big with #7, take whatever at 14 then regroup and see what else they can do.

watch brown in these playoffs I bet he goes nuts

Wouldn’t surprise me. Dude is starting to become a consistent scorer and is the second best defender on that team

I go Morant because I don't see the dog in Tatum. I know there are a lot of people ready to make excuses for Tatum this season, but a true alpha wouldn't take a step back just because Kyrie came back. And even in those games Kyrie is out, its not like Tatum asserts himself. He also rarely gets to the line which is a big red flag for me.

Tatum should be the right choice mainly because getting a good-great 3 is a major problem in the league.

That doesn't discount Ja and what he'll be, as I see him as a major star in the future. I just see point as a position where you can find a replacement-level guy much easier than at the 3, where you have a couple of good ones in the league and then a ton of middling-to-crap guys.

While we're praying for scenarios, the possibility of us winning the lottery and getting Zion or Ja then flipping AD for either the other of the two (if the Knicks get 1-2 or the Kings get 2 and convey to the Celtics) or Tatum would be perfect.

Too bad the odds of that are pretty low.

It's close for me. I honestly think it becomes about what other pieces are you getting along with those guys in a trade and how those stack up.

Smart
Jrue
Tatum
Randal
Okafor

Would be serviceable but not playoff caliber

in a vacuum you might choose morant over Tatum.
but that’s really all you get with the Knicks trade

Mitchell might be something
Knox might
the marlboro man might

or they might all be so one dimensional that they will never be building blocks

if given the choice I take the Boston package around Tatum, keep holiday and see about favors or Noel

You could also get a ton of picks, including an unprotected Dallas one. Future Knicks ones for when they inevitably mess everything up

And people shouldn't discount the possibility of bringing a 3rd team into whatever trade. So, maybe you send DSJ, Knox and a pick or two to Team C who gives you things you like.

No trade partner can offer exactly what I want. If I am Griffin, I am thinking about asking for 4-6 assets from a team, keeping 1-3 and working with the other team to try and get someone else I like with the other assets remaining.

And maybe its not right away. Maybe you get all those future picks from NY, along with Knox and Ntilikina, etc. You re-sign Randle, and then in February you take Randle, Knox, Ntilikina, and some future picks and get Blake Griffin from a Pistons team that suddenly stinks again and wants to rebuild.

Long story short, this isn't a two team trade where all the pieces the Pets get are foundation pieces that have to fit just right.

I agree with that as well, another idea I’d toss around I’d say after we made a deal with Boston for Davis. We were to explore the idea of trading one of our picks, either 7 pick or the Sacramento pick paired with jrue to move up to get Morant. But at the same time do you really get rid of a guy like jrue who seems to be cool with staying here when you aren’t a hot spot for star players. But that’s also kind of a bad look on a small market team getting rid of a loyal star

of course

all things are possible

I’d say the Dallas picks are unlikely to be high lottery.
I’d say the Knicks picks with Davis (and Durant?) are unlikely to be high lottery.
I’d say in your future trade scenario that other teams would have the same reservations about Randle/DSJ/etc as we do, and those picks won’t be enough to get griffin. And griffin is expensive, getting old and is hurt a lot

give me the sure thing.
Tatum is good. Brown is good. Smart or Hayward are good. They are all good now and could be even more

Getting a 3rd team with an abundance of wings involved would be a pretty good idea.. Phoenix has been looking for a PG for awhile now, try to send DSJ and a pick for TJ Warren, then use NYK pick for Zion or Ja (if you draft Zion bring Payton back as the starter)..

The trade could end up:

NO: Zion/Ja, Knox, Ntilikina 2021 Dallas 1st

NY: AD

Phx: DSJ 2021 NY 1st

I could definitely live with that roster

Tatum is good. Brown is good sometimes, not so good other times and is about to get overpaid. Smart is perhaps properly paid, perhaps overpaid and would give the Pels the worst shooting back court in the league. A league where shooting has never been more important.

I think the core of our disagreement is that you really value several of Boston's assets, while I don't. And I think the league values "potential" over "the real"

I think a future unprotected Mavs pick would have more value on the open market than Marcus Smart or a guy you took with the 14th pick this year who has an actual name.

But I wouldn't know that until I called all the other GM's. Like I said, I would be calling around to teams with guys I like and see what they like from the Celtics and Knicks. Then, perhaps base my decision off that.

Good idea in theory but this draft is seen as weak enough that a team won’t take a boatload of 2019 first round picks to trade out from Ja.

Coupling that pick with Jrue wouldn’t do it unless you had a team trying to win immediately instead of doing a long term build. And the teams I can think of willing to make such a deal would be chasing AD and not Jrue.

Right but I’m thinking of a team like the suns having the pick and they would make sense as s team interested in jrue to help a team full of assets try to compete finally

Why take Jrue to serve as a point when Ja plays that position and you are clearly years away from contention?

Granted, this assumes sanity is involved. Sanity and Robert Sarver aren’t well acquainted.
