re: Pelicans didn’t even offer Cousins a deal

That appears to have been $5m-$7m more than anyone else offered.

I’m glad we showed restraint and didn’t pay him because we felt we had to.
Now about getting another star player here...

Who says Randle isn’t that player?
Rotate him, Niko, and AD and you have one of the best 4-5 combos in the league.

Yeah Marc Spears is an idiot and will believe anything. Cousins talked with the Pels Sunday night and his agent wanted nothing to do with their offer on the table.

Honestly, as I think about it more, the team may have let him walk. The shite he pulled skipping all the playoff games because he couldn't fly all while posting photos on planes put the team in a shitty situation. I can't imagine AD liked him skipping out on supporting the team.
Either way, I'm sure it only further cemented his reputation as a petulant child around the league.

I could not be a gm.
Could not stand this.
Amazing on part of golden gm. They have a shot at playoff boogie for 5.4 million.
And he might come back. Klay and draymond will be Fa's.
Maybe boogie is better than dRaymond green.
Or not ... but they have a shot at playoff boogie.

They won't have his Bird rights. The most they can resign him for is a 20% raise. If he's healthy no way he plays another year for $6M.

What's the reason on this? I've seen this brought up as an issue on Rondo, but I can't find an article or a post explaining it. Is there a point in time where if you sign a vet, in order to re-sign him, you're capped at going up by 20%?
Posted on 7/2/18 at 11:25 pm to Bayouboi25
Does anyone really believe this?

Lack of Bird rights.
If you sign someone to a one year deal as a FA, you have no Bird rights to them.
For each consecutive season they stay with your team after the first, you gain more Bird rights until they are “full Bird”.
If Rondo has signed an additional one year deal with us, we could have offered an “early Bird” contract next offseason which would have allowed for a raise that wasn’t constrained by the cap.

Spears just said, Demps told Cousins he didn’t want him....I just don’t buy it

Yeah Dell didn't want him at the price Cousins' agent was asking for.
Talks were then "closed" from Boogies side and the Pels were left hanging with their dick in their hand.

Hey, genius, what the frick do you think this means?
Dude signed for $5.3MM...
Us not being able to pay him enough wasn't the issue.
And for everyone saying he went to GS because he felt shunned by whatever we offered, then all we should have to say to him is:

Spears is spewing absolute garbage that Cousins' camp is feeding him. Why on planet Earth anyone would believe anything out of Cousins mouth right now is amazing to me. Here's what happened: Cousins didn't get the number he wanted, from any team, and reached out to GS to play for cheap. He is now saying false things about the Pelicans in order to cover his arse. Not that hard to understand. Spears is in Cousins' camp, Boogie has been using him for leverage for months now. I would trust Hillary Clinton before Spears

bullshite.
Demps probably told Cousins “We want you here but you want too much.”
