Yeah, I don’t think Zion is choosing to sit out until 3:45 left in the 4th. This is an organizational decision to limit his minutes and it makes a lot of sense on a 12 win team with no hope for the season.

Then the damn organization should play him 38 min. Zion definitely has his faults but damn this organization has done him no favors.
Blaming this more on the organization is such a lazy take. It’s on Zion for not taking offseason conditioning seriously year in and year out

Stop making excuses for why Zion is still on a minutes restriction 6 seasons in.
He's injury prone as frick and the season is over. Why play him more? I don't want to win games anymore. Zion isn't the guy. Why not try to limit his risk of soft tissue injury by limiting his minutes then trading him?

Because we are tanking? He wasn’t on a minutes restriction last year. Don’t complain about the player because of an organizational decision to lose as many games as possible.

No one is saying Zion is choosing to play the minutes he plays. But it’s on him that he continually puts himself in a position where the organization feels the need to restrict his minutes

To fricking get his arse on shape and used to playing 38+ minutes

I think it’s more likely his conditioning is fine but they are limiting him to reduce wear and tear and risk of hamstring injury. Yeah it’s unfortunate it has to be accounted for but there’s no reason to play him 40 minutes a night in a lost season. If we were in the hunt and he was only playing 28 minutes, you’d have an actual gripe.

As of February 8, 2025, Zion Williamson has played at least 40 minutes in a game only once during his NBA career. This occurred on April 16, 2024, when he logged 40 minutes in a play-in game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

He can ramp up his minutes next year after taking the offseason seriously. frick using this season to get him in shape. That's a good way to frick up our draft odds and unnecessarily risk getting him injured and unavailable for offseason condoning

Gotta start putting Trey and CJ on the Zion minutes restriction too.
Yeah why “get him back in shape” and make him play 40 minutes when the season ends in 2 months and we’re off for another 6 months lol

And he was in decent shape for him and pulled his hammy and got fat in the offseason. You're proving my point

Didn’t he get severely injured at about 40 minutes and 10 seconds in that game and miss the playoffs?

I am most certainly not proving your point by showing that a supposed-star player who is now a veteran in the NBA has only eclipsed 40-minutes once
You guys are missing the forest for the trees big time here. Fact of the matter is, dude still gets gassed when his minutes increase which is why the team still handles him with kid gloves.
Think about it, of our starters, why the frick is he the only one on a minutes restriction? It's sad.

Honestly so futile to argue about this. It’s not like there’s any middle ground, one side is staunchly for Zion and the other wants to get rid of him at all cost. At the end of the day, everyone just wants to say they were right.

I just want Zion to be in shape.
I'm so down on this organization as a whole that I'm actively rooting for me to be wrong every step of the way.

This.
And I don’t think he is serious enough about doing so to stay on the damn court.

It’s hard for me to even put any stock into this season. Everyone got hurt immediately. If Zion stays healthy the rest of the way and we get a top 3 pick. We’ll be in a decent spot. But we’ll still be the New Orleans Pelicans and have a small shot to be a winning franchise. Just the way it is.

I think there needs to be a referendum on what that means. He needs to lean our dramatically and evolve his game along with it. He's not a PF. He has no interest in banging on the defensive side or posting up. He should be shooting 4-5 3s a game. He needs to be rebuilt.
It's not really something that can happen during the season, but there could be subtle movement. If he (and his team) could commit to a type of transitional change, then I'd be up for giving it another year. But he has to acknowledge he's been wrong and start to show it.
He was incredible last night. The numbers look great. It's just not consistent and he could be more. I just don't know when he will embrace that.

It's pretty clear to me that we're both tanking and protecting our biggest asset.
I dont know why you don't see that. Zion needs a full offseason of conditioning and needs to lose weight. Even with what he's currently at i would absolutely expect him to get another soft tissue injury.
He has shown time and time again that he will get hurt. He needs to lose another 20 lbs from his current size and change his style of play completely to be able to play 70 plus games a year.
So yeah, I'm not playing this guy major minutes in a lost season. The best case scenario is that he stays healthy and we win (which we don't need to do) and the worst case is him getting hurt again, which really fricks our plans up and will give him the excuse to get fat again.

You don't get it... like at all.
It'd be one thing if this was the first year he's on a minutes restriction. It's a WHOLE other thing entirely that in the time he has been in the organization, he's more often been on a minutes restriction than not.
Again, as usual, you either lack or purposefully ignore the context to make yourself feel better about Zion.
