Who is conducting these workouts if Dell and Gentry went to Sacramento to pick up Boogie?

Cut Casspi and you can sign two of these guys. Thompson and Cook if you want to plan for the future, or Thompson and Chalmers if you want to make a run for this season.
You can also make space by trading guys like Jones, Ajinca/Asik for picks if anyone is willing to take it.
Asik's contract isn't horrid for every team, but for this team it definitely is. But a defensive backup C like him in the right system would work.

$10MM next season and he's averaging under 3pts and 5 rebounds a game for the Pelicans...

Casspi is better than those guys.

but he's not a defensive center. he's just a center, with no offense whatsoever, is lazy on the offensive boards, and can't guard anyone on defense other than Marc Gasol who he usually always plays well against.
His contract is horrid for every team, b/c he isn't an NBA player, and hasn't been for about 3 years now.

go look at Ian Mahinmi, Nikola Pekovic, Timofey Mozgov, Meyers Leonard, Miles Plumlee
These guys along with Asik are making 8-14 mil a year while putting up under 10 points per game and 5 rebounds per game
Not saying it makes Asik an asset but it does tell me that Asik's contract is not the albatross I once thought it was. it'll still be tough to move him bc there really aren't any redeeming factors but its doable (crazy thought but maybe we find a team committed to tanking and trade him for peanuts - thus insuring said team will continually accumulate high draft picks)

All that says is that centers are rather worthless in today's nba. Unless they are capable of gaurding smaller guys and/or being a threat on offense, they are mostly a liability on both sides of the court. They get picked on switches on the defensive side, and if they can't hit a shot or be a major threat on a roll to the basket, like Deandre Jordan and younger Tyson Chandler (both with CP3), then all they do is crowd the lane on offense.

that is also true. today's NBA is moving away from traditional centers and moving towards guys that can do it all

The problem is that the center market has completely frozen. Nobody wants them, even good ones. Judging by this trade market I wonder how cool the market for center will be.
Are Zaza Pachulia and Dwayne Deadmon going to get big deals like Mozgov and Biyombo? Will Aaron Baynes opt out of $6.5 million because he can get more than that? If the answer to those questions is yes then maybe you can move Asik. But if the answer to those questions is no...
