They think they can get Barnes without a pick? Maybe if Randle were on a long term deal you'd have a shot but I assume if Barnes is their guy that they'd be willing to give up a pick to get him, especially if it dumped Solo in the process. Is there some mandate from above about the pick?

quote:Do you think we would have to take on Mahinmi and give up a #1 as well? I guess that would look something like Moore, Randle, Johnson, Hill and a #1 for Mahinmi and Beal or Moore, Niko, Hill and a #1 for Mahinmi and Beal?
It sounds like you must take Mahinmi for the Wiz to even start a convo about Beal.
I guess it would be tough to get a 3rd team involved to take on Mahinmi without having another #1 pick to give.

No. They know they have to give up a pick to get a guy like Barnes. Even Bazemore. And that's why they aren't Pelicans

I tend to like the wait and see what we have once everyone gets healthy approach. Aren't we supposed to be in better position for a trade this summer? I think Solo becomes an expiring, anything else?

You also lose Randle and Niko as possible trade chips, your pick will be known (which could be worse, could be better). And more importantly, AD could already be asking out.

Overall what do you see the pelicans doing?
Posted on 1/1/19 at 8:37 pm to DMCfan1331
I see them continuing doing what they are already doing - and that's being very aggressive.
But you can go to an auction and be very aggressive and get nothing. I think they will keep this line of only trading the pick for a guy like Beal, but I just wonder - if push comes to shove and the Wiz won't deal Beal or they deal him elsewhere - will the Pels eventually cave and give the pick for a Barnes or a Porter or Bazemore and another piece.
My gut says that if it's early February and Dell hasn't landed Beal, he will cave and move it for Barnes or Porter

Am I crazy for wanting to see if the Payton/Jrue/Niko/Randle/AD lineup is feasible? I don’t think the 3 bigs are any less agile or slower than a Solomon Hill. We saw how much trouble the team gave GSW at times when Cousins and Davis were on the floor together.

It's fine but you can't keep Niko and Randle this summer,.so what's the point?
Remember, it's not just about being good this year. You have to show AD that you have a SUSTAINABLE foundation this summer for him to sign. Not just win 45 and have a good showing in the postseason, but have three main cogs as free agents. That won't get him excited to committ into his early 30s. You gotta somehow show him the Pels will be a force for years to come

Obviously we would all prefer Beal, but getting Porter and Satoransky or Barnes and a good backup PG wouldn't be bad.
Posted on 1/1/19 at 8:49 pm to PTinBR
"Not bad" isn't keeping AD IMO, and if the move doesn't drastically increase your chances of keeping AD, I would just prefer they do nothing. Because if I am getting Tatum or Ingram and Kuzma in a trade, why do I want to be paying Otto Porter 25+ mil per year for the next few years?

Are we to assume any trade that goes down will be consulted with AD? Can the Pels really do that considering AD’s new agent and Lebron’s connection to him.

He will be asked what he thinks of certain players, just like all superstars are. But it's not like teams are working on a trade and then they go, "Okay, let me put you on hold. Hey Jenny, call AD. Hey AD, so here's the offer...what do you think?"
The conversations go more like, "Hey Anthony, what do you think of Bradley Beal?"
"Beal? He nice."
That's how it goes. That's the extent

Well how serious are they going after Beal? Or are we just playing the hypothetical game because he’s the most well known big name on the trading block?

A competent wing and backup pg may not be the needle mover people want, but I think this team is a lot closer than people think when healthy. A deal like that could really help put us over the top.
But I do agree that I don't love the idea of getting saddled with Porter's contract.

Then there’s nothing the Pels can do.
If Jrue, Niko and a Bazemore/Barnes type aren’t enough to keep AD, then he’s gone.
I just see no motivation for Washington to move Beal. And even if they do, the Pels’ most attractive trade chip is a draft pick? Sheesh
And putting three stars together has really only happened for GSW and Miami, so to think the Pels can magically pull that off is just unrealistic.

Have you heard if the Pels are considering trading multiple first rd picks for a guy like Beal? Or are they operating as if they can’t trade future picks because of Davis possibly leaving?

They are not operating with rules. They negotiate, discuss, go back and negotiate, discuss again.
My dream is that somebody makes a documentary on a single NBA trade. From beginning to end. I was lucky enough to see and hear parts of one go down over a month plus time. And a failed one when Atlanta was seriously considering trading Milsap or Horford a few years ago.
I don't think you guys can even begin to imagine how different it is from the basic fan concept of how they thing trade negotiations go. How fluid they are. How abstract they are. So I know what you guys mean when you ask, "Are they going after him hard?" or "Are they serious about..." or "Will they do X or Y?"
But it is literally nothing like what you think it is like. Its a slow grind of little droplets here and there that are always changing, not just because of your situation, but their situation and agents agendas and the other teams who also might have interest in that players - those teams have their situation constantly changing.
I can't fully describe it, but long story short - I promise you, it is so different than how most of you think it is.

I would love to watch a documentary about that. One of my favorite 30 for 30 documentaries is the Elway to Marino draft. It had so many moving parts that went on it was crazy.
I believe you that trades are fluid as hell just like people. That’s why I don’t get mad at you when it’s your not 100% on a move. Dell himself doesn’t know what going to happen sometimes.
