Diallo should have had the last shot, or at least run the play though him and try to free up Cook for an open 3.
I see a lot of room for improvement on defense. He has athleticism that guys people are comparing him to (Ajinca) just don't have.
Based on what I've seen the past two games he looks like he could be a viable rotational player in a year or two, maybe sooner.
If his defense improves he could even be a legit starter.
I would feel comfortable saying he's currently an asset, albeit one who needs development.
Question is to we keep him or use him to package with the 2018 first rd pick to get someone ready to contribute now?

Diallo was visibly pissed at that last timeout play. Was clearly not happy with that last play the coach drew up
I think he was more upset that he missed that easy follow up that would have tied up the game.

That or that the guy whose rebound he collected was mauled going up and it went uncalled. At least that was my impression.

Considering how salary strapped they are, I think you need to keep a guy that can be your 3rd big long term and hopefully he's still raw enough after 3 years that his 2nd contract can be cheap, like 4/$20. You do give him up for a difference making starter though.

I was in no way comparing their athleticism. Just the fact that both have a decent offensive game, but are terrible on defense. Ajinca can score. The reason he doesn't play is b/c he's terrible on defense.
There is no doubt Diallo has the physical tools to be a great defender. I personally think it's a lack of effort and want on the defensive side. He doesn't look like he gives a shite about playing actual defense. Just interested in getting blocks and playing offense.

Sorry for misinterpreting your remarks.

It's also the Summer League. I'm sure the coaches are telling him to take all the shots. They think of him as a 1st round pick.

I know its just the summer league which is a lot like the d league where there isnt a big emphasis on defense.
I've watched Diallo a little extra these last two games. The dude hustled his arse off to run the floor on offense, and lolly gags back on defense. It appears, at least to me, that he simply doesn't care to play on the defensive side of the ball. It's as if he's only interested in showcasing his offensive skills. His screen defense in these games is atrocious.
I don't remember him looking that bad on defense the few times he played last year, so maybe it's something he's been told to do, concentrate on offense more.

It really depends on what the coaches are asking him to focus on this offseason and the games. He's more of a hustle and effort guy on defense right now anyways.
I'm not too worried about his defense in summer league.

Crazy that Cheick is only 20 years old. Same age as Josh Jackson. And only a year older than the rest of the top players in this past draft - Fultz, Ball, Dennis Smith, Tatum (all 19).
He hasn't been perfect in every aspect of his game but its pretty damn impressive to see a guy we drafted at #33 last year develop into one of the better players in this year's summer league. Wish Frank Jackson could play. Would love to see him and Cook play in the back court together.

Updated for Pels and Nets game
Posted on 7/10/17 at 5:24 pm to Mystictiger
We're looking awful right now. Nets on a 19-4 run to close the 1st.
Posted on 7/10/17 at 5:38 pm to Mystictiger
I don't think the Pels know what defense is.

nets have actual NBA players on their team.
funny how cook & diallo all of a sudden cant do what they want...
this team is frickED if they are counting on those two to contribute this year.

I was glad to see Crawford working with AD/DC today. He ran the backup PG spot fine next to Moore last year.

Toupane and Benson are really bad.
There is no plan on defense. Everyone is chasing the ball.

Jesus, even our summer league defense blows goats. Just no effort on that end whatsoever

I don't think anyone expects Cook or Diallo to be big contributors this year
