That’s a tough one, you can’t teach 6’10 skilled scoring. I also think sharpe will be what everyone thought Markelle Fultz would be

I’m not great at projecting but I think the main ways to improve our starting five hedge on Zion being healthy and improving defensively, possibly shifting from the 4 to the 5 if he can make that work.

Or we could fall arse backwards into the first pick and get Holmgren to backstop JV and develop him until we are ready to move JV.

For all I know, putting Herb out there to shift Zion’s defensive load a bit allows us to put Zion at the 5, Jax or a pick like Banchero at the 4, and either make JV the top big man sub or move him for other pieces.

Probably a “Captain Obvious” take but Zion showing up and is figuring out what we have in him answers a lot of question.

and if that happens it’s completely fine because it potentially means a guy who would have been drafted before 8 falls back a spot.

I'd suspect so unless he has a mediocre set or workouts, or someone like Mathurin/Davis really balls out(could also see Sochan rising due to his Scottie Barnes/Draymond comps to guard 1-5 and facilitate).

However it sort of all but guarantees that one of Griffin/Sharpe/Mathurin will be there at 8....probably Mathurin

Guys like Patrick Baldwin Jr and Hardy were hyped to be top 5 picks going into the season. They were exposed this year against higher competition. Drafting Sharpe is risky without ever seeing him play at the college or g league level. If someone drafts Sharpe in the top 10, they better be sure he’ll translate.

For a team like the Pelicans who has no major holes, they can afford that kind of gamble but most of the other top 10 teams probably find it risky. Will he be there? I don’t know but I think he’ll be since he’s such a gamble.

True, Emoni Bates is another that was pegged as a top 5 recruit and struggled in college.

That's also likely why he doesn't end up in the top 5 unless he blows it out the water in workouts, but while Hardy lacks the elite athleticism and ball skills, Sharpe has the whole package. Really has shades of a 7ft wingspan Lavine.

Though I also think Hardy is a smart late lottery high upside pick to take a chance on. That I think showed the downside of trying to skip college and go to something like the G League

Agree sharpe is gone by 8 but am glad to see sharpe in the draft for this reason. I think sharpe goes 5 after the seemingly consensus top 4 guys are gone.

Yes it’s just practice highlights, but his athleticism is clearly elite and someone is going to take a swing at a guy that has number 1 pick athleticism at the 5-7 pick.

Assuming we stay at 8 I think mathurin is the guy I would want to see added to the roster. Team needs more shooters.

I honestly think a lot will come down to who picks where.

I think Sharpe is gone by 8, but if the lottery stayed as is, Keegan Murray/Griffin makes a ton of sense to OKC, Indy or Portland. And you have to think Ivey goes before Sharpe to one of those three.

Sharpe to Kings sort of makes sense, and gun to my head I think he goes there unless they jump up in the lottery, but it's also the Kings, you really never know what silliness they might go for.

But man I like the idea of Sharpe a lot. three point gunner that's 6'6" with a 7' wingspan, the length next to BI/Herb would be insane.

maybe, but with the kings trading for Sabonis it seems like they’re trying to win now. Could see them take Murray or someone with more experience at least.

new SI mock draft
quote:

8. Pelicans (from Lakers): Dyson Daniels, G/F, G League Ignite

Height: 6'6" | Weight: 200 | Age: 19

It became clear early in the season that Daniels was the Ignite’s best prospect, and considering his quality production as one of the youngest players in the G League, he profiles as one of the most NBA-ready prospects in the draft while having just turned 19 years old. Daniels has consistently displayed mature feel and decision-making skills, and due to the size of his frame, he may eventually be able to moonlight at four positions on offense while also defending those spots on the other end, which is exceedingly rare. He already rebounds, defends and makes plays for teammates at a very high level for a teenager. Maximizing that versatility is contingent on the continued improvement of his jumper, which is more of a stiff, set shot, but seemed to be trending toward passability by the end of the season. It’s hard to see a player as young as Daniels with such a diversity of strengths failing, and while he doesn’t fit into traditional positional boxes, an imaginative franchise should be ecstatic to draft him.

Daniels would be a fascinating addition for the Pelicans, who will get to keep this pick (acquired three years ago in the Anthony Davis trade) after the Lakers’ season collapsed and have an opportunity to add to a young core of talent that’s trending in a good direction. Put your mad scientist hat on and imagine Daniels playing in super-sized, multiple-ballhandler lineups next to Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson and Herb Jones.

Christian Clark also mentioned that as well or something similar. Luckily he may fall to 3 so if we make the top 4 and not get #1, we have a chance

I'm not 100% opposed depending on how the draft falls and how confident Griff/Vinson is that his shot can be improved, I even was drawn to him earlier in the season when I posted this breakdown of him:

LINK

Cause there is a lot to like with Daniels...There is also just a lot of shades of a less athletic Dante Exum. Which is not great lol

How do you think he compares to say lonzo?

There's definitely some similarities.

Thats not a bad comparison, I think Daniels is a more well rounded guard though.

Similar length, not the most athletic, needs to work on his jumper, doesn't get to the line much, has a better floater and interior game though, high IQ, good passer, length to eventually switch four positions, better playmaker and very good in PnR(which Lonzo isnt), also plays out of the post decent. Unlike Lonzo he can break down a defense with his dribble and pass guys open, not just move the ball from the perimeter.
