I'd rather think of it as the Pels win the NBA Championship 1 of those seasons while the Lakers win the lottery Pels get #1 overall... Lakers fall all the way to #30
If that happens my penis will literally explode from the amount of blood rushing to it.

Still, this can either be really really beneficial or completely work against us. Still, most of the swaps will happen in the twilight of LeBron’s career. And if AD continues to have health problems then this greatly benefits us

I know this is bad to say, but I would have no sympathy for AD if he undergoes an injury such as KD's recent one

The swaps and picks years from now are just free rolls of the dice. We lose nothing

I think the timelines match up well. Lebron will not play for the lakers after his contract is up. So 3 years of a continual declining Lebron. AD might want to leave after that, hell, maybe before if things don’t work out or either gets hurt. This trade can go from good to trade rape fairly easily

I mean... we'd already know we'd be picking #1 overall while the NBA Finals are going on... maybe even before the West Finals start
we'd go into the playoffs already knowing the picks are getting swapped... I guess the only question in that situation is... would the Lakers send a representative to the draft lottery or would the Pelicans

Oh I’m aware of the timeline. Penis still exploding

that would be an absolutely amazing 2 week stretch of Pelicans basketball
whoever is doing the trophy presentation interview would have to ask Griff (or whoever the correct admin person is)... "you just won the NBA Title... and now you're on the clock in the NBA Draft... thoughts?"

No. 4 pick in 2019
Top-8 protected in 2021, becomes unprotected in ‘22
Unprotected swap in ‘23
Unprotected first in ‘24
Unprotected swap in ‘25
Let me get this straight to clear confusion. If I am wrong, somebody correct me...
Player 1: #4 Pick in 2019
Player 2: Laker 1st Rounder in 2021, top 8 protected, and can be deferred to 2022, which would make it unprotected.
Player 3: Pick swap in 2023, unprotected
Player 4: Laker 1st Rounder in 2024, unprotected
Player 5: Pick swap in 2025, unprotected
One more question: will the pick swaps be deferred, if the Pels have the higher pick?

Your language on the 2021 pick is wrong.
They finish top 8, it conveys in 2022 unprotected.
A deferred first means that there was an unprotected first and we said “No, not this year” and pushed it back one season.
Which can only happen on the 2024 pick because it is fully unprotected.
And no, pick swaps are a one and done deal. We have the better pick, the swap doesn’t happen and is completely null.

I’d say no deferment in years where pels pick is better pick. But never know until details.

So hypothetically if the Lakers win the championship in 2021, the pick conveys to 2022, unprotected?

I'd have sympathy for the player, just not the team

No. If in the 2021 draft the lakers don’t pick in the top 8 we get their pick. If they do pick in the top 8 it rolls until the next year. It is not protected in 2022.

No.
The only way the pick doesn’t convey in 2021 is if the Lakers finish in spots 1-8 of the lottery, meaning they missed the playoffs and either won one of the top 4 spots or finished bad enough to be in spot 8 or lower after the four lottery teams have been picked.
Even if LeBron and AD both got hurt, the chances of them either being at the bottom of the standings or winning the lottery are extremely low. Not zero, but pretty damn low.

The 2021 pick top 8 protection just had a clarification: We get it if it IS IN top 8, if it’s not a top 8, it rolls to 2022.
It keeps getting better!

A clarification on the haul of draft picks heading the Pelicans' way. The 2021 pick goes to New Orleans if it's in the top eight, if not they'll get an unprotected first in 2022. Swap in 2023. Unprotected first in 2024, with a right to defer to 2025.
It keeps getting better!

This shite changes every hour I don’t even know what’s real anymore

We do lose an extra swap trade it seems

OK, now that is screwy.
Only time I have seen protection like that before was when Morley got some lottery protected picks from a team (Raptors) that would only convey within X spot range within the lottery.
