Paying 15-20 mil per for a guy who will only play 25 minutes a night is stupid.

Would be a pretty good deal.

At this point resigning Favors would be disastrous

Just looking at the market this offseason, I don't know that that is true.

No one will have cap space so it could be a short-term, bargain deal.

I agree, but I can see a world where he doesn't get near that. If he's getting 20 for more than 1 year I would be pretty upset.

The extreme Favors hate in this thread is absurd. You don’t want to tie too much up for too long, but people are literally acting like he’s Asik. That poor comparison has been thrown around multiple times by multiple people.

thing is that everyone is eyeing summer 2021. if you sign Favors to a 1+1, you can help teams shed salary

If you look at how well Zion’s playing the 5 as a rookie and the expected leap for Hayes, resigning Favors will be such a waste. His minutes will continue to decline as the young guys require more playing time. That money needs to go elsewhere and using it on a quality back up who can start in spots is the smart move.

Again, Jaxson isn't ready, so if its a short term, reasonable deal then it is completely fine.

If we sign him for 4 years 80 million, yeah, that is an issue.

I feel like I would be a little surprised if we didn't cut/buyout Miller and add a body from the buyout market. Having a player that can actually contribute in practice or play in a pinch would be a lot more useful.

What expected leap?

Hayes has looked worse the more PT he gets.

And you don't want Zion playing the 5 extended minutes in the regular season. Put as little wear as possible, and unleash him in a death lineup type role in the playoffs

HE will be ready to play at least 20-25 minutes a night in year 2. He’s already averaging 18.5 now. Zion will give you 10 minutes at the very least. A quality back up will give you the rest.

Jaxson has not looked good lately. He's hitting that rookie wall big time, IMO.

Like I said, there are not a lot of minutes to go around so I am not paying a Center 20+ unless he's a really really good player.

But just looking at the market this offseason...Favors on a bargain is possible.

We’re talking about year 2. Hayes was always expected to hit the wall at some point as that’s normal. Favors will not come cheap. You guys can keep dreaming though.

What are his other options for a huge deal?

might not be cheap but it’ll be a team friendly contract.

It doesn’t matter what the options look like now. It matters what it looks like after the draft when teams make their deals to free up space. And even if Favors signs for less than the market value, it won’t be with the Pelicans.

Why wouldn't it be?

Utah literally told him they would trade him to any team he wanted to go to and HE chose Pels. He WANTS to be here.
