Jax has played his worst ball at the 5

Nance is a far better option for a backup 5

Hopefully he can get better at playing the 5.

He said the team told him to focus on perimeter/guard type of work in the offseason. They don't see him as a center either. I think it's very unlikely that Jaxson is on this team in 18 months. I think he's gone by the trade deadline. As a PF/big wing he's either going to be too good to afford, or not good enough/too redundant with Zion/Trey/Nance to be worth his next deal.

hopefully but we haven’t seen it.
regardless, his extension is going to be starter money. I’m sure when they drafted him they were thinking about the 4/5 fit with zion. That hasn’t happened and maybe it just poor timing but you can’t pay and hope.

they have JV for two more years at reasonable money and can do a 2 yr with nance. The idea of Hayes is tantalizing but the reality is a massive tax bill once zions new contract starts

I just keep getting the vibe that Duran is going to be the pick. They need a new developmental center as Hayes isn’t working.

Impending free agency. Tax consequences. Roster makeup. They all seem to scream for Duran and trading Hayes for any kind of value we can get for him.

They need a center who can play the pick and roll in the playoffs to maximize the other defensive strengths the team has.

Maybe we can find a 7ft player that can hit 60/35/75% shooting to play as a back up 4 or fill in at 5 when needed if we trade away our pick and Jax.

shouldnt be too hard right???

I’ve been team Jax for awhile and still am to an extent, but I really think it would be best to use him in a trade package to add another useful trade chip, even if it’s just a late first, or a few seconds, or the flexibility to add a top 7-8 better fitting playoff rotational piece.

If Zion is healthy and we extend Nance, we really aren’t going to play/need Jax much.

I think Jax has a crazy high ceiling, but only a 5-10% chance of hitting it and still only a 50% chance of accepting a specific, winning role and excelling at it.

If Zion continues to be injured this offseason or we have a stalemate in extension talks, I think we should probably hold onto Jax as insurance. He is extremely talented and if given enough minutes and tutelage from the coaching staff and guys like Nance, it’s possible he could be good to great one day if he continues to get enough minutes to develop.

If we draft a developmental big and it's not Williams I'll riot.

If you invest an early pick in a big he has to project to have super special traits. That's only Williams

The few people I've seen jumping to this conclusion seem to be doing solely based on knowing Jaxson is likely not a long term solution and thinking the team would draft based on that "need", which I'd argue isn't actually a need and definitely shouldn't be the reason you draft someone.

For once im actually pimping a Shamit idea, but I wonder if the Magic would do a S&T with Graham/Jaxson for Mo Bamba? Assuming we got either Mathurin or Daniels in the draft.

If Orlando is moving off Bomba because they don’t want to pay him after winning the lottery, Jax seems like the last piece they would want in exchange for him.

They would end up back in the same situation next season unless they flipped him for assets at the deadline.

Shamit makes a good case for Bamba. I'd be interested depending on the price. It lets you hopefully fill the center hole without using 1st round picks.

Just route him to a 3rd team for something they do want.

Based on Orlando’s roster, what they appear to need is help at the guard position.

They have big men coming out of their arse between the likes of Bol Bol, Wendell Carter Jr, Jonathan Isaac, Bomba, Sideshow Robin Lopez, etc.

Who is willing to send Orlando a guard or pick for Jax to make the deal work?

Hayes has a much higher ceiling

Bamba likely hit his top level last year

Bol Bol - not really a big. Almost more of a forward, and he's not any good anyway. Also is a FA.

Jonathon Isaac - seems like he's more interested in not playing basketball than playing. Can't rely on him actually playing.

Robin Lopez - needs to retire, not any good, is a FA.

Bamba - RFA, expected to not be on the Magic next year.

The only big they really have is Wendell Carter, who has played well for them after the trade.

Bamba would be interesting for us. Backup 5 who can knock down 3’s and swat a few shots. Not sure how much money he’s going to want or if he’d be happy being locked into a backup role

The RFA part helps. Unless Orlando completely renounces him, they get to play gate keeper and try and get a 2nd or a prospect for him. Bamba needs to find the best offer that's willing to trade for him. Not a lot of teams waste time on RFAs like that.
