Well, there is a banner hanging in the Superdome that would disagree with you. Archie is a Saint and will forever be a Saint... You are a moron and will forever be a moron

You know Archie played for the Saints, worked for the Saints, still makes money in New Orleans. I'm sure he feels bad for his son, but Archie should give the Saints some props, just say in.

"But I'm not going to worship him as some sort of personification of the franchise like some people seem to"

That's a fair statement, but I still don't think it has to be all or nothing. I'll just say that Archie played in New Orleans, gave his all for crap teams, stayed in New Orleans, and he loves New Orleans. I've been away for a while, but still get a lump in my throat when I come to New Orleans to visit my folks. I consider Archie a staple of New Orleans and I take pride in him and what his kids have done.
My point is that he doesn't have to love the Saints more than his kids. I think you're asking too much for him to pull for the Saints over his own flesh and blood. Believe me, I'm not saying I wish it would have turned out any other way, as I was one of those wusses who cried when Porter made the interception.

Archie's gone. Let it go. He's got two Super Bowl winning QB's for kids. The Saints are the number three team on his ESPN Scoreboard page.

Exactly.

I doubt Archie is heartbroken about Drew taking his "title" as face of the Saints or the fact that pulling for his kid upset some fans.

He hasn't played for the team in over 25 years, and he's pretty much switched from milking his status as a former Saints to milking his status as Peyton's dad since Peyton went to college. He's also lived here for forty years so any connections he has were locked up long ago.

He really doesn't need the status anymore.

One reason so many Saints fans can't stand the Mannings is that they had two elite blue-chip QB's in the family, and neither went to LSU. Say all you want about Manning and the Saints, but there are a lot of LSU fans who think Manning is a traitor to LA. I feel that way, AND even more importantly for me, Archie and the runt of the family both went to Ole Myth. Eli still has grass stains on his pants on the last Ole Myth offensive play of the 2003 game with LSU. The stain just would not come out.

Not happy about the LSU snub, but the man's number hangs up in the dome, so I gotta show some love.

I feel bad for people with small enough weewees that they're still looking for something to cry about after this kind of season.

I never asked for that. I don't think anyone is. His kids are playing for other franchises, so I don't blame Archie for moving on. But, again, he's not a Saint to me anymore. He's the father of Peyton and Eli. People need to let him go.

I have absolutely no problem with this, but when you don't root for the Saints to win the Super Bowl, you're no longer one of us. I don't see him as a traitor and I don't hate him, but I don't see him as a Saint anymore, either

LOL, wow.

So, if you were lucky enough to have a son get to the SB against the Saints, are you saing you'd root against your son, or you're saying you would no longer be a Saints fan???

Dude, he's more of a Saint than you or I can ever dream of being, and you KNOW that is true.

Why fault Archie for decisions his sons made. These were important decisions and the kids made the choices of where they believed they would be most comfortable for four years. Let's enjoy the Super Bowl win just like we enjoyed two LSU national championships, none of which involved a Manning.

I've read this whole exchange of opinions and this is the biggest bunch of bs on the rant. Knocking Archie is ridiculous, hating him for rooting for his sons, damn what a bunch of retards. I wonder what you would have done in his shoes but wait you weren't blessed with genes of an athlete, you have no idea what its like to have athletic sons that are highly successful and be thrust in the spotlight all the time, all you can do is trash people. Sure Archie wanted his son to win just like any other good father would but I promise you he was happy and proud that the Saints are the World Champions!! Its just an ackward situation for him. Archie is a SAINT and will always be one!!

I'm sorry this happened to Archie and his family. Imagine being a loyal supporter of the Saints, enduring the years of losing and frustration, only to find them in the Super Bowl opposing your son. This should have been as happy a time for him as it was for all of us but in a sense he was denied the experience.

Archie said all he needed to say pre-Superbowl.

"I'm pulling for my son but I'm happy for the Saints and their fans."

End of conversation.

Anyone heard from Archie Manning?
What public BS did he spew after the game?

Archie was allegedly quoted as saying "the people of New Orleans are going to pay..and pay dearly" as he headed to the levee with some dynamite.

99% of people in New Orleans love he Mannings and know of how much work they do in the community. Archie and Olivia are good friends with the Peyton's and the Bree's and Archie presented a community award to Sean Peyton in Miami in front of the team. Don't get so upset a few message board geeks go to far and don't understand this. I don't think Archie cares if some loser behind a keyboard, who will never come close to being as successful as Archie or do as much charitable work or good in the world, comments on something he/she knows nothing about.

Know one thought Eli would be successful in college or the NFL. LSU did not show serious interest in Eli. Tuberville did not want Eli, he was headed to Virginia until Cutcliffe came in.

Booty committed before Peyton but the chances with Peyton were next to nothing.
