He posted a 90+ PFF grade and was 2nd in the country in pressures. You don’t get that by playing well in only 3 games.

Oh great, another Young or Granderson who can’t finish.

We have a top 10 pick, we should get someone who can get sacks, not someone who eventually gets within the pocket just to let the QB step up and throw the ball.

He had like 8 pressures and a sack combined against probably the 2 best offenses in the country

THAT’s . MY. POINT. He did little to nothing all year. That scares me when I’m picking in the top 10.

He just didn’t impress me at all during the season.

Wow

What? I watched him against Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State and some Louisville and Virginia Tech. He wasn’t a big factor or game wrecker. Sorry I missed his 3.5 sacks against Bethune-Cookman, Syracuse and Pitt where he must have balled out and got all his stats.

ETA: On top of the above, he’s the least athletic/explosive edge player. So it’s not like you can project him as a high ceiling rusher like Chaison or Hendrickson who are physical freaks. Those are the Bailey and Reese type players.

Bain might come in and be a good player. I’m not saying he can’t. I’m saying there are a lot of questions for a supposed top 5 type pick.

What about the 11 of 14 games he wasn’t “on” this year?

I’ve said this many times on here, yet some still seem to think that this doesn’t matter. Sorry, when you are the elite player at your position then you need to put up elite statistics. You don’t disappear from the stat sheet for 85% of the season only to show up in playoffs and get a pass.

He appears to be that guy who will take too many plays and games off only to show up in the big ones. We can’t risk that inconsistency with this high of a pick.

At 8 you go best player available regardless of position. You grab the generational talent, not a guy at a need spot (WR) or a player with red flags (Bain)

Downs is awesome, but also has medical concerns. And to say he is more of a sure thing than Delane is ludicrous. Even without purple and gold glasses, he dominated at VT and then came to the SEC and took his game to another level. QB’s finally made up their mind last year to scheme his side of the field out of the game.

In 385 snaps he only allowed THIRTEEN receptions, didn’t allow a TD, and opposing QBs only had a 27.5 rating against him. That is elite and translates. Period.

Yes, Styles would be great.
Some will argue #8 is too high for a linebacker, but looking at this draft it makes sense.

I'm down to Styles, Downs, or Delane at this point...after rewatching Bain, while he is a force at times, that's the problem... it's at times... not consistent... we've missed so many times at DE that we can't waste another pick on something that is not for sure at that position

Does Bailey fit our defensive scheme?

Mauigoa would kill it and complete our OL at RG.

Tate could make Olave expendable but is that what our front office wants.

Bain could be a Chase Young type replacement in 2 years while he gets his feet wet.

Sadiq could be the joker of our offense. Juwan and Noah could both be expendable in a year.

Etienne and Love.... Holy shite. Remember, Love was all over at the combine lining up at WR etc.

Bailey is good enough to fit pretty much any scheme, and he's s a player you design a scheme around... he's the premier DE in this class and if by some how he falls to 8, we should sprint to the podium

Tate complements Olave, not supercedes him

quote:

could is the opportune word.. problem with Bain is his consistency... that worries me

he's a faster Jimmy Graham... but he's pretty much a one trick pony... he doesn't really offer any blocking prowess..

Love

IMO, we are out on Love after Ettienne... we also still have Neal and Miller, and Kamara, i'm assuming

I know nothing about Bain but wasn't short arms the reason Trey Hendrickson fell to us in like the 4th or 5th?

Pass rusher seems to be more about bend than arm length. Like that dude we got from Notre Dame in the second is so stiff it doesn't matter how long his fricking arms are.

I wasn't familiar with his predraft status, but Hendrickson has 32" arms. That's over an inch longer than Bain's and 33.5 is the average already.

Bain is an extreme outlier
