And honestly he should have been canned when they cut ties with Haslett. He was one of the main reasons for those teams.
So he was one of the main reasons for our shitty teams but isn't one of the main reasons for our Super Bowl winning team?

i gave him much credit for brees and payton signings. But he's been riding their coattails for years now.

The Saints can still be successful despite an average GM...you know that's possible, right?

Just because we've had some great seasons doesn't mean it has to solely reflect on Loomis...Which is what some of yall seem to accept for some reason. Try and break things down and look at the big picture here.

Yeah...
Because there wasn't anything different about pre-2006 and post-2006 years.
I'd agree that he's pretty average. He's good at getting us under the cap by scrambling, but all he's really doing is pushing the pain away. When Brees calls it quits, this franchise could be back to shite while we still pay Brees. Clearly Brees was his best signing, but other than that, he hasn't really done anything spectacular in free agency. Getting Lewis on the cheap and taking a chance on Sharper are the only things he's done that warrant any kind of praise. Every other free agent signing was practical and not due to Loomis making something special happen. This isn't a knock on him really. Just not worth much praise.

I just don't really know what you guys are expecting. Other than the bounty season we have been a competitive playoff team for years now. You guys saying he should be fired are insane IMO

just said he was around 12-15 for me. Never said to fire him.

i did say he could have easily been fired with the Haslett regime.

Not to be picky but you did say he "should" have been fired after the JH years.

Loomis or as Blu once rhapsodized "PayLoom" was bottom of the league at first.
But from 06 to now I think most of the so-called top list have him as a top ten GM.
And I do as well.
Good times to be a Saint.

This is a very impressive acknowledgment of Mr. Loomis's skill set. We are lucky to have him. Sixth out of 32 is outstanding.

re-signings that have put us in cap hell.

I gotta agree with this.

Loomis is a master at taking from one bucket and splitting it into different buckets but lots of times it seems like he's just scrambling to delay inevitable disasters he's setup by some of his contract loading in previous years.

The reason I'm beyond adamant about us trading Graham is I don't think there's any chance we can recover if we don't hit the restart button (cap-wise, not at all program-wise). I see trading Graham as a one-time opportunity to build significant depth, get younger, and allow us some cap space for Loomis to reset and plan for the future instead of scrambling each year.

I am quite surprised at the number of people who question this ranking of 6th for Loomis. The past few seasons, I have posted threads questioning Loomis's skills, and, each thread was loudly, rudely and roundly bashed.

Now, it seems, more critical thinking and analysis is being applied to fan opinion of the Saints GM.

That's a good thing. An extraordinary league of Gentlemen such as we must never allow ourselves to eschew the hard work of doing critical thinking.

Very similar to the opening sentence in A tale of two cities!
