He's like a Jamarcus Russel. Tons of physical talent but doesn't have the intelligence or drive to be great at the game. Way too immature and then combine that attitude with millions of dollars, you have a bust waiting to happen.

I don't think the team should pick him, but I completely disagree with the intelligence and drive part. Sure, he's immature, but even with his bumps off the field, he leads his team and is consistently one of the hardest working guys out there.

I think it's unfair that he only gets compared to the likes of Russell, Griffin, and Newton.

Just because he's black he gets compared to black QBs?

If you're going to compare him to a black QB in the league right now, I'd say his game is closer to Russell Wilson's.

Overall, his closest comparison off the top of my head would be Matt Ryan.

Because I read more than just reports on him stealing crab legs and screaming "Frick her right in the pussy."

ETA:

quote:

His work ethic and commitment to the game never have been in question and he has the full support of the coaching staff with Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher continuing to speak highly of Winston's character.

quote:

Brooks said Winston's "football character" -- on-field leadership, work ethic, etc. -- appears strong.

In regards to football players making poor off-field decisions, I am of the opinion that only a small percentage of this activity is reported. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Some guys just have trouble breaking a lifetime of bad habits/poor upbringing in just a few short years.

I would be much more worried about him correcting that immaturity if he wasn't considered a strong leader on the field. The dude is just 20 years old and has dealt with the burden of a ton of success.

He has a great skill set, so the physical part of his game is fine. He seems very immature and downright petulant during games, and to say he doesn’t seem very bright is the understatement of the century.

So, he may have the same entitled/diva-like personality as Ryan Leaf and the intelligence of Vince Young. Not exactly a recipie for success in today's NFL.

Minus a serious attitude adjustment, I don’t see him ever living up to his first round draft position…and I haven’t even touched on the PR risk a franchise takes with drafting the guy.

This dude would be in Angola prison as someone's bitch after he spends one season mingling with the New Orleans culture.

No.

I've been constantly attacked on this board for saying I would love Jameis in NOLA, and I'm not backing down.

This guy is the closest thing to a sure fire QB prospect we're going to see in a while this side of Andrew Luck. YES, he has character issues, but a lot of players do. I'm not that worried about the few things that he's done. If placed in the right environment it will be a nonissue. By all accounts he is a very hard worker and a student of the game.

He is head and shoulders above Mariota. It's a joke that people actually think Mariota could be a better prospect. He is much better in the character department but he is not even CLOSE to sniffing the plane that Winston is on when it comes to being a passer.

The way I look at it is, Payton turned a slightly above average, underSized QB in Brees into one of the best of all time. I would be very interested to see what he could do with a guy who has ALL of the necessary physical attributes. It could be downright terrifying.

What? I'll give you the character concerns, but from all accounts he's nothing less than a a hard worker. Plus you're telling me multiple game winning drives isn't the "drive to be great" Or his 26-0 mark as a starter?

I don't even know if I'd want Winston in the 3rd, much less the 1st. His off field issues are well documented, but he just plays with poor technique, and he's been turning over the ball way too much this season.

Well considering Luck is only in his 3rd season, and there haven't been that great of QBs since then, this isn't saying much, although I still disagree.

I've asked you to explain this in two other threads, and you haven't. How in the world is Winston "head and shoulders" above Mariota?

How can you possibly look at these stats and conclude that Mariota isn't even close to Winston? It's one thing to prefer Winston over Mariota, that's your choice. But to say a QB with a TD:INT of 24:17 is heads and shoulders above a QB with 38:2 is insane.

YDS CMP% YPA TD INT RAT
Mariota- 3,783 68.3% 10.17 38 2 186.6
Winston- 3,559 65.4% 8.43 24 17 147.0

And those obviously don't include rushing stats, which are:
YDS AVG TDs
Mariota- 669 5.7 14
Winston- 80 1.6 3

There's a reason Winston's team is undefeated, and he isn't even a Heisman candidate, while Mariota has the award locked up.

And once you consider them as off-the-field individuals, I don't see how anyone in the world would want Winston over Mariota.

Yes, because this award just screams future NFL success.

And not winning the Heisman doesn't equal NFL success or failure either, but winning the Heisman=success in the NFL wasn't at all my point. My point is that Mariota having the Heisman locked up, and Winston not being nominated shows that Mariota is having a way better season than Winston is.

I wouldn't take him in the 2nd round. Maybe if he fell to the 3rd round. Jesus Christ...even Tebow went in the 1st

NOOOOOO! He is a thug POS and should not be drafted by any organization that respects itself. Let the Jets draft him, the Saints should want no part of him

Statistically, yeah. Who's arguing this? That doesn't necessarily mean he's a lock for a better NFL prospect at all tho. Mariota is having a better season because he's in a system that is much more conducive to gaudy QB success.

Now do i agree with the other poster's sentiments that Winston is "Head and shoulders above"? No, not really. I do however favor Winston more at the NFL level.
