We’re 110% there and that’s fine. No franchise is going to come out and say it.

Wasn’t Brady a 7th round pick ?

The VAST majority of successful nfl QBs are drafted in rd 1. Just because a couple of franchises found a diamond in the rough over the last two decades doesn’t mean it’s a successful strategy.

We can test this statement using several metrics. Just for fun, lets look at the top 20 QB's all time in passing yards and where they were drafted.

1. Brady 7th round
2. Brees 2nd
3. P Manning 1st
4. Favre 2nd
5. Big Ben 1st
6. Rivers 1st
7. Rodgers 1st
8. Ryan 1st
9. Marino 1st
10. Stafford 1st
11. E Manning 1st
12. Elway 1st
13. Moon UD
14. Tarkenton 3rd (29th overall at the time, which is 1st now)
15. Palmer 1st
16. Testaverde 1st
17. R Wilson 3rd
18. Flacco 1st
19. Bledsoe 1st
20. Fouts 3rd.

So, St. Augustine's comment is indeed accurate. Even moreso if you throw in the top 3 rounds of the draft.

The only QB other than Brady on that list not in the top 3 rounds was Warren Moon, and there were special circumstances there; he signed with the CFL before the NFL draft because he thought he'd have greater opportunity in Canada.

So you'd take a QB at #32 but not #33?

Yea, just how I view this new guaranteed contracts with 2nd rounders. QB drafting is a crapshoot and I’m a believer of keep drafting until you get one. Something is off in the evaluation if he’s going outside of round 1. So I wouldn’t guarantee a contract for that guy. Would rather wait until round 3 which a lot of times QBs drop anyway if they aren’t selected in the 1st.

In the NFL, you either have a QB or you are looking for one. I am fine spending this season determining if Shough or Rattler are viable. If not, you go get another one next season. Repeat until you find one.

Saints will likely be awful this season no matter what. We should get a top 5 pick next year
