@RapSheet: The #Saints are selecting #Stanford OT Andrus Peat, the best pure LT in the draft. No way they thought he’d be there.

Man, there was nothing even close to consensus when it comes to Peat.

People had him all over the place on their mocks.

Total speculation on my part:

Saints feel there is good depth at pass rusher and receiver at the back end and early 2nd round.

With two linemen off the board, we had to make a pick now or we would miss out on a top O line prospect.

If fournette was in the draft right now he would have been picked in the first round.

Saints need to continue to let this fall. Possibly make someone move up for a RB?
I had a feeling there would be a trade up for a RB, but I also didn't expect Gurley to go #10.

Wish Saints would have traded with SD.

Hopefully we can snag Dupree or Gregory at 31.

Then Perryman or Kendricks at 44

SD wouldn't have traded with us...they knew they could wait a couple of more picks

Per @PFF, Peat allowed two sacks and seven hurries over 423 snaps last year. That's solid.

That really should shut up anyone with a problem with the pick...

they didn't pass that much and most of their passing was safe or off play action. it's not as impressive as the raw stats indicate

We Def going defense with 31. Don't we have to?

But what if DGB is there at 31...hmmm.....

Will be WR at 31 and ILB at 44. OLB will be in the 3rd, where specialists should be drafted

Yeah, but the experts really don't know shite. No one does. Peat has the physical tools and is a hell of a run blocker. If he can develop his pass block he will be a pro bowler.

But we still didn't fix our interior

we need interior OL so that doesn't make much sense, since we drafted a pass-protector (and have one)

Probably true. Also they need OL, so maybe Saints jumped their pick.

Strief has played guard according to Mike Detillier on WWL

To all the complainers who keep saying we need to fix the interior:

You do realize that Peat can play Guard for the time being, right? Or Streif??? A tackle can transition to guard quite easily. This is getting insane with the short sighted complaining. Just stop

i'm not saying it was a bad pick, but it was a reach for our roster and franchise situation. we don't need developmental guys in the 1st at positions where we have quality players
