what do you think happens if we sign a TE?

or why are we in the market for a TE?

depth? since there's only two proven ones left from last year's roster.

cutting watson saves 1.5mil, we also have the cap room to give gresham the minimum. what would the point of that being? losing a quality run blocker and average receiving threat for no reason?

kind of funny after the talk of Watson showing out at OTA's the other day.

after the off season we've had nothing is going to surprise me.

unless we sign we sign some expensive player.

Gresham isn't high cost though.

ITS PROBABLY NOTHING BUT WHAT IF... ?

Yeah I didn't see the Cam details before that post. We'll probably need most of that for PS players, IR players, and in season signings though (most teams keep between $3-5mil for such stuff). So I'd be surprised if we signed him for more than the minimum or around $1.5mil at the most.

I guess it depends on if they are seeing him as a starter or as just a camp body/possible third TE.

He will be competing for the number 1 receiving TE spot, believe that. I think it will go down.

Not that I personally want it, but I would be shocked to see him go. He's one of those guys Payton will be too stubborn to part ways with because he wanted him so badly. But if they did if someone did beat him out whether it was FB or TE he would free up around 800k.

i could see them keeping Austin johnson and Lorig. Then keeping 2 true TE's, with Lorig getting some time as the 3rd TE, and an OL getting time there on run downs.

A few tidbits.
Gresham is 6'5" 260 Lbs

Ran a 4.66 40 pre draft where he was a 1st rounder.

Was recruited by many teams out of H.S. including LSU.

Took his H.S. basketball team to state finals.

He played... basketball

Definitely need to sign this guy... Our offense is equal opportunity especially compared to their QB and offense. Worth at least a look see

I'd be super pumped if we picked him up cheap. He's never been able to stay healthy but dude is talented.

so, is it safe to assume that we are not going to sign him at this point?

Probably not going to sign him anytime soon. Most likely, they were just giving him a tryout so they knew what he had to offer later in the year if someone gets hurt or doesn't perform as expected.

This was my thought as well. Is he even fully healed from his back surgery?

Anthony Spencer came in and left w/o a contract, then I think we signed him about a month later. I'm still holding out hope.

You really don't want him. After watching him for the last several years:
- average or less blocker
- poor hands never makes the difficult catch
- makes "bone head plays"
- good for at least 1 penalty per game

Players have never been able to turn things around with a new team. Has never happened.

It's not like we'd be relying on him to be our full time starter. He'd be a backup/role player. Anything we'd get out of him would be a benefit. It's a no/low risk situation for us.
