None.

Let’s assume Shough is elite.

How many rosters are littered with elite players? Seattle, LA Rams, Philly (with a fraud at QB), Houston on defense. Maybe the Broncos on defense. Payton has done a masterful job on offense without much talent.

Jax & Chi have good rosters. The Chargers have a good roster with a bad OL. San Fran has a great roster that dealt with injuries. Cincy is a playoff team with Burrow healthy.

BUF and KC have generational QBs and have let their skill position talent criminally lapse, just like the Saints did at times with Brees.

This season is giving the Saints hope but some of these teams are way closer than we are and just need a tweak or break to jump back ahead again.

You do not need a ton of elite players but you need quality NFL starters and the Saints do not have a ton of those guys. Especially with the years Cam Jordan and Davis had on defense, they masked a ton of the deficiencies on that side of the ball. Offensively they are devoid of playmakers. It's just not a great roster.

The RG and Center issues must be solved. Cesar Ruiz is a complete bust. If he doesn't have a come to Jesus moment, then let him ride the bench. McCoy can't make a full season.

What you’re saying is something that can be fixed before the 2027 season. I think the playoffs are realistic this season assuming we add some pieces and Shough progresses. There are fewer elite teams than there were in past eras. You listed teams with some positives and major warts.

Be “fixed”(relative term) and compete for the division(in a terrible division) /=/ Super Bowl contenders

What teams have had four year rebuilds? NFL rosters turn over too quickly to take that long.

Both starting tackles, who are very good were hurt and out most of the year. It pretty much sunk their team. No team can recover from that. They very well could have been in the superbowl if both stayed healthy

For this year, yeah. There’s going to be a lot of dead cap to eat. But after this year the books are clean and they would have a lot of $$ to spend. That’s the great thing about how deals are structured. You can go grab some good players and structure their deals and spread their cap hits out to 2027 and 2028

I rather keep them clear for next year. You can sign a couple value free agents to plug holes, but I rather have our cap completely clean the next few years. Re-signing Olave will also take a big chunk of that.

You'd have to hit on some draft picks immediately. Turn the offense into an elite one. Guys like Love being instant game changers for the offense, and go get a name wr and te in free agency.

Really though a lot of it based on luck to make a sb run. The Patriots got a decimated chargers team, a Texans team with a broken qb, and Broncos starting a backup qb.

we had traded for Pickens last offseason like I suggested

We'd have a two year rental of a head case that would not be good for the locker room.

Hmmmm. Any ‘name’ receiver will cost over 25 million a year.
If he’s that bad in the locker room, I wonder why the cowboys are trying to keep him so bad.

I'm not sure if this would be an unpopular opinion but I don't want them chasing a contender next year. I want another offseason of smart cost effective moves, and then maybe after next season you go chasing bigger better things.

I wouldn't worry. They are making the team the best they can. We fans are the one's discussing the possibilities!

Idk, you keep mentioning New England. They’ve been rebuilding since Brady left after 2019. Two coaches and several top 5 picks later, here they are.

It’s not always linear or properly quantifiable in the way you want it to be.

First, Saints should build a team to win the division. After that, we talk Super bowl.

What impact players did NE acquire before 2023? I would say they failed their 2020-2023 rebuild and had to start over.
