I don't think I've ever heard anyone fail to give Darren Sharper his due for that year. IMO we don't win the Superbowl without him. Which makes his current situation all the more painful.

BPA notwithstanding I still think we take a corner 1st Rd due to the depth at WR

We have no idea who is going to be there at #27.

Gilbert and Dennard will be gone. I like Verrett. But like blues said, he projects to be a slot CB instead of a true CB . Drafting him, we would still have to play PRob or White split out wide.

I like Roby. But I also like other guys that we can get in the mid rounds. We could address bigger needs in the 1st / 2nd round, then take a CB with great value in the mid rounds.

Think he's speaking of the depth of WR in the draft.

Gotcha. My b. It's tough for me to automatically say the WR at 27 would be the same type of talent at 59. There are a lot of teams that need a solid #1 receiver still. It's a possibility the talent level could be the same, but maybe not. Admittedly this is why I don't get paid a lot of money to figure this outt.

The dropoff at CB after round 1 seems to be far worse than the droppoff at WR.

That is my reasoning for going CB round 1, WR round 2+

best #27 CBs likely to be available are Verrett, Fuller, & Roby. I don't think they have interest in Verrett. He projects to a slot cover guy like Casey Hayward or honeybadger

Yea cause no one wants honey badger on their defense...

We need an explosive offensive weapon at receiver first.

Then it's honestly a toss up between oline and corner for me. Depends what the bpa at those positions is at round 2 and what we think we can get in 3. Lewis, vaccaro, byrd, then someone at the other side. We might rotate white and crew in there or pick up someone we don't see coming but with the Byrd signing I think our next big move needs to be fixing out giant glaring pressing issues on the offense

I say we go WR first round, if for nothing more than Carolina's sitting behind us with Tavares King currently pegged as their #1 receiver. Fills a need and sticks it to a division rival - I'll take it.

P-Rob is fine on the outside. It suits his skill set, and with Bryd having his back, he'll be more than fine.

The coverage hole as of right now is the same as last year: the middle.

We really need an athletic linebacker that can play coverage on 3rd downs.

SOMEONE THAT AGREES

We need depth at corner. But, assuming PRob is back to pre-injury speed (which is a fair assumption until we're told otherwise), he is a good #2.

If we add a coverage LB in the middle, we won't have to put our safeties in the box as much and they'll be able to help our corners who are taken deep on the outside, PRob included. This would help the entire defense IMMENSELY because the QB will either have to throw into tighter coverage deep and risk our ballhawking safeties making plays, or they'll have to wait for an opening which let's our excellent young DL and OLBs make plays on him in the pocket.

A coverage LB is on the top of my list with WR and C. CB is right after, as an insurance policy.

I've been blasting that too. I think with Byrd on the back end it becomes equal to or greater than the need for a second corner (depending on PRob's rehab and if White can get his technique worked out).

I think it goes center, receiver, cover lb/corner. After that it's quality depth.

I do think we still keep a safety in the box because that's Rob's forte, but it gives him the freedom to do more stuff with him.

yeah we will more than likely still see a lot of 3 safety sets. i wouldnt pass up a top end WR for concerns about corner depth. the offense needs to rebuild quickly.

we don't have an extreme need going into the draft (i.e. need a starter or fail type of deal).

All of our needs are truly, "i can fix it now or later" type of deals.

Center. Everything else would just be improving. We don't truly NEED a WR or cover LB or another CB. Those will all be very nice to get though.
