If you're even still reading this thread....
I bought a brand new tacoma in november. You can find a deal if you are willing to search for it. My out the door price including taxes was about $400 under MSRP on a TRD Sport 2wd.
I average 18 mpg. You're not going to get that in a Tundra. The F150 that you can get for AROUND the same price will have that small twin turbo V6. In my research, the full-size trucks were not comparable in price with the same options, even with the huge discounts/rebates that Ford was offering at the time.

What'd you pay? And what options does your truck have?

I only got the standard stuff that comes with trd sport package-literally nothing else. Bought my own floor liners and step bars.
I can look up exacts a bit later but tax was about 1,200, truck was 30,800. Out the door at 32k

The small EcoBoost is a hell of an engine. We just got a 2wd crew cab in our fleet, and it gets very good gas mileage all things considered and is decently quick.
Getting to $32k out the door on a crew cab XLT woudl be a pretty good deal, but likely could be done. Like I said earlier in the thread though, it all comes down to what you need and feel comfortable driving. I only brought the F150 up because OP did. Tacomas are great trucks.

step bars
Do you step on them to get into the truck...or do you just use them to get shite on your pants when getting out of the truck?

Glad to hear good stuff about that eco boost. Its awesome for a big truck like that yo get good mileage.
As far as the step bars, strictly to get shite on my pants.

Seems to be a very good deal for the Tacoma
The F150 4x4 compared to the yota seems to be 34k+ if I drive some distance to get one. That is the price listed after rebate online. Maybe can even talk down a little more. It would be the 2.7
So there is about a 4k difference is the lowest of prices of the two trucks.

Keep in mind AUJim got a 2wd, not 4wd.

Anyone know a ballpark figure on how much off MSRP most Toyota dealers will come off the price of a Tacoma? Website shows MSRP 33170 and 35950 for the two builds I like. Both 4 door, 4x4, and full size bed.
Just wondering before I start looking arond.
Mid sized trucks like the new Tacoma, Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are hot commodities now. They don't come down much off the price.
If you want a good deal, try out a Nissan Frontier.

True Car is biased for the dealers. As is Edmunds, NADA, etc.
Take the invoice price, subtract the dealer holdback (2% of the MSRP), subtract the advertising rebate that Toyota gives the dealer on every car they sell, and subtract any "Sale discount" they take off the MSRP(you subtract it from invoice)…and start your negotiation even lower. There are all sorts of rebates they get from the manufacturer they never tell you.
Remember, no matter what they say, they are lying.

None of this matters. They aren't going to haggle with you because bully bob down the street is willing to pay close to MSRP. It's a Tacoma, not a frontier. Supply and demand, supply and demand.

You'll get a better idea if you go to a forum like tacomaworld. There's a lot of good information for the Gen 3 Tacos and also there's a thread where people posts what they paid.. Here's a model/package/option model/package/option master cost list to give you an idea of your target #.
ETA: Like another poster said getting a DCLB(double cab long bed) configuration is going to be tough because you'll wont many at the dealership. Most likely you'll have to factory order it. If you have a Costco membership; they offer a 3rd party auto program that's pretty competitive to truecar.com.

I ordered a 16 Tacoma TRD Crewcab 2wd with tow package in December. It took 5 weeks to come in. Msrp was around 32400, I paid 31690.
I am getting 22 mpg in Baton Rouge traffic.
