The open sea can produce such an overwhelming calming effect until the next day when she shows you her full fury.
Navy sub guy here.
Open ocean is gorgeous. Can’t even describe how beautifully blue the Atlantic is.
Surfaced about 300 miles off the coast of Virginia and went swimming
Never rode out a hurricane on the surface but we went under one once. We were at 500 ft and got tossed around. Dove to 800 where it stabilized.
North Atlantic is no joke. Transiting on the surface heading in to port often lead to rough seas

No joke indeed. I was on CVN-68 and we were in a heck of a storm. Amazing the power the sea has on a ship of that size. Felt sorry for the escorts along side of us. They were getting beat up pretty good.

I say this only to help you fellas avoid future heartbreak but those nighttime shots are greatly exaggerated by the use of long exposure times. Amazing art but that said it wouldn’t look that way to you.
in person seeing it as it would appear naturally would still be amazing. We don’t see the stars nearly as much as we should

It really is a sight to behold.

That was amazing, thanks for sharing. I'm thinking, 42 isn't too old to switch professions. Where's the nearest maritime school to learn navigation....

What was the bright large star/planet? Anyone know? It was due East whatever it was.

How much down time do these guys on these cargo ships have in between ports?

The prettiest sky I’ve ever seen was taking a crew boat ride from deep water in the gulf.

That guy's channel is pretty good. I've watched a lot of his videos.

That would be Jupiter.

This is so awesome. I've been night fishing on a lake several times and it is so calming and quiet, even with a full moon, stars and some lights from the campsites and houses. However, it pales in comparison to being out in the open ocean thousands of miles away from land where you might . I cant imagine how alone it is out there with just the moon and stars as light, but it would be cool to see

I was on CG-55 through many North Atlantic crossings and a few storms. I will say its one hell of a ride! Literally walked on walls and could jump from one deck to the next as she fell out from under you cresting a wave.
As for the night sky during darken ship, its pretty amazing how many stars you can see. plus the waves hitting the hull is very calming. Bioluminescent algae is also pretty cool!

I have watched most of his vids. Gives a good insight into life on an oceanliner.

Loved it! One of the coolest videos I’ve seen!

We go to St George island in FL and the whole island essentially goes black at night (sea turtles). On clear nights, it is amazing. Much like a desert sky.

On cruises, I have been on the top deck at night, and I always wished they'd shut the lights off, just so the people can get a really good look at the stars at night. Otherwise, the lights on deck are typically just a bit too bright to get the full appreciation of the vast night sky.
